I’ve really been missing playing music in person. So two of my music friends came over, we sat outside about fifteen feet from each other. and played music and sang. A few neighbors came out to listen, everyone keeping a discrete distance. It was so much fun. I feel so much better.

I live alone, and the long weekend was looming for me. So I made a goal of walking at the beach each day and grilling out each night. (That latter is quite funny, as I am typically terrible at making fires, and I bought a new baby BBQ grill.) I'm happy to say I met my goal and enjoyed every minute. I actually spent about 3 hours at the beach today, which is about 10 minutes from my home. Day 3's salmon was the best! It was Copper River Salmon. Here are a few pics.

The actual workout is 55 minutes long, but this is what I've been doing lately.

Yeah, it wasn't raining at all in my living room, but my clothes were SOAKED after the workout. How does that work?

Isn't anyone going to ask about the huge cardboard box in the back corner, hmm, hmm? :?:

I assumed it was artwork. I don't judge. Different strokes for different folks, and all.

Yes sir, that's exactly what it is.

It's a painting of the Doge's Palace in Venice, painted in Italy before the Civil War by a guy who was later a Confederate soldier.

My great-great-grandfather was a surgeon for the Confederacy, and served through the whole war. Toward the end of 1864, he treated this soldier for a gunshot wound and they became good friends for a brief time, as happens in a war. Both from Mississippi, both wealthy scions of their families, both highly educated and spent time touring Europe. White privilege at its finest. :|

The soldier was recovering nicely and great-great-grandpa took him home to finish healing in his apartment in Richmond, but suddenly he was struck by pyemia, a type of blood poisoning that we don't see anymore, and which was invariably fatal.

So my great-great-grandpa had to inform his new friend that he'd be dead in a day or so, and the soldier wrote a will giving this painting to his doctor/friend. It's been in our family for over 150 years now, and it won't fit in my dad's apartment. But you can see the size of the thing, it won't really fit in our living room either (unless we get rid of the Tee Vee, which for whatever reason Wifehorn won't allow).

My parents paid hundreds of dollars to get it refinished and cleaned. It's really a very nice, beautiful painting. But I have no idea in the world how I'm ever going to get it out of that box. :daydream:

No, don't worry about it, I feel bad enough that this wonderful thing is hidden in plain sight. It's a great story, but I want that thing out of the box and hung in my house!

It sounds like a great painting Foggy.

To return to the main question:
What are you doing to stay sane on your Staycation?
I try to read everything in the Forum when I have access to my computer or iPad. It is almost a full-time job.
Edit: I don't read the Honey Boo Boo stuff. I never saw the point of that show.

I know, right? And that current TV looks tiny against that huge wall. Go big or Go Home! Oh, wait.

I think the mystery box has a new TV.

Splitting firewood and moving it around the property in a trailer towed behind an ATV. Which led to the following conversation:

Me: Honey, I broke the ATV. I backed it into the trailer and snapped off the oil filter to the hydraulic system.
Husband: You broke it, you fix it.

But he showed me how, and now ($400 in parts later) it’s fixed.

Finished the course from John Hopkins, am now a certified covid-19 tracker. I let my friends at emergency management know in case they need some back-up.

Now I need something else to do to keep my brain busy.
