For Pruitt, gaining Trump’s favor — and keeping it — came through fierce allegiance
Worth a read. What a suck up ass kisser.

Scott Pruitt spent $2,700 on 'tactical' pants and polos

If it wasn’t so serious, this stuff would be laughable.

Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, is up to his neck in ethics investigations and has been criticized even by some Republicans (though they don’t seem too upset) over his, shall we say, profligate ways.

Now the Intercept reports, based on records released under the Freedom of Information Act, that Pruitt has spent more than $4.6 million in federal tax dollars on his own security — including more than $2,700 on “tactical pants” and “tactical polos.”

Presumably that refers to special clothing for his security team, but it sounds more like he’s hiring pairs of pants to consult on tactics — perhaps in meetings conducted in his soundproof telephone booth to discuss how to go about buying a used mattress from the Trump International Hotel (yes, Pruitt tried to do that).

[Update, 2:52 p.m.: The EPA said late Thursday that the tactical pants and other equipment were “routine expenditures" for equipment for security agents engaged in executing search warrants, making arrests, disaster response and other activities. It added, "This attire is not used for protection work.”]

But Pruitt’s spending on security is no laughing matter. The new total is up $1.1 million from a report released just a month ago, according to the Intercept, and far ahead of what past EPA directors have spent.

The EPA has argued that the security is necessary because of death threats to Pruitt, yet the 24/7 security was approved by the White House before Pruitt even began the job. And subsequent reporting revealed that the number of legitimate death threats is zero.

New Pruitt question: Where are his emails? An examination of Pruitt's gov't email accounts has uncovered only one message he wrote to anyone outside the EPA during his first 10 months in office.

Watchdogs question whether he's communicating in private.

More disappointed Trump voters.

But with Trump's EPA administrator, Scott Pruitt, facing a litany of ethics investigations and the administration moving to deregulate parts of the oil and gas industry, their hopes are shifting to an even higher plane.

"I put it in God’s hands," said Ben Bienvenu, a third-generation crawfisherman, from his fishing boat last week. "Nobody wants to listen. God will make them listen.

About 300 crawfishermen still work on these waters. Twenty years ago, there were more than 3,000. They bemoan the lack of action by state and federal government agencies to defend the natural swampland that oil and gas companies have disrupted over the last 60 years.

“It cripples all of your fishery, all of your marine animals, your wading birds — everything suffers from what these pipelines are causing,” lamented Meche. It’s a food chain under pressure: The herons and egrets eat the blue crab, which eat the water’s clams.

Still Trumpers, though, because when you're dumb, male, Christian and white you resent the elites and Trump focuses and expresses your resentment.

Welcome to today’s episode of Trump’s America, in which the Mr. Burns of the EPA spent $8,522.50 on some fancy coins to celebrate the way his agency handled last year’s hurricane and wildfire seasons. Excellent.

Here’s the sitch: The EPA contracted with a company called “Lapel Pins Plus” so that it can give its employees commemorative “challenge coins.” The agency ordered 1,750 special little coins with special little display cases to congratulate employees for “PROTECTING HUMAN HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT ALL ACROSS AMERICA.” (That’s written on the coins, OK? It’s very cool and chill.)

The EPA clearly hadn’t been reading the news about Puerto Rico when it ordered the coins. We still don’t know exactly how many people in the U.S. territory died…

New Emails Suggest Scott Pruitt Discussed Hiring a Friend of Lobbyist Landlord

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/24/clim ... tw-nytimes
Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, discussed hiring a friend of a lobbyist family that owned a condominium he was renting for $50 a night, newly released emails suggest. The files also show communications involving the lobbyist’s client interests that have not previously been disclosed, suggesting a closer relationship between the lobbyist, J. Steven Hart, and the agency than previously known.

The emails, released as part of a lawsuit filed by the Sierra Club, an environmental group, contradict early assertions by Mr. Pruitt and Mr. Hart that Mr. Hart hadn’t lobbied the E.P.A. last year after concerns arose that Mr. Hart’s wife had rented the condo to Mr. Pruitt.

The potential hiring of Mr. Hart’s family friend was discussed in emails between Mr. Pruitt’s chief of staff, Ryan Jackson, and Mr. Hart, who was chairman of the Washington lobbying firm Williams & Jensen and whose wife, Vicki Hart, rented the condo to Mr. Pruitt. Other subjects discussed during and after Mr. Pruitt rented Ms. Hart’s condo included refrigerant chemicals, which was raised on behalf of Coca-Cola, and the Paris Agreement — the global climate pact to address climate change — discussed on behalf of the global bank HSBC.

The emails also show that Mr. Hart suggested other potential hires to the E.P.A., including one person who he emphasized was a Republican and an African-American, on behalf of an executive of the philanthropic arm of the pork giant Smithfield Foods.

EXCLUSIVE: Scott Pruitt personally involved in "ratfucking" ex-aides who he feels betrayed him. @lachlan and @swin24 report:
According to three sources familiar with the conversations, Pruitt was livid over Hupp’s testimony, which he felt had been particularly humiliating. And he personally reached out to allies in the conservative movement, including some at the influential legal group the Federalist Society, to insist that she had lied about, or at least misunderstood, the request for a used Trump mattress. He also stressed that Hupp could not be trusted—the implication being that she should not be hired at their institutions.

It was an aggressive move by a besieged, scandal-prone Cabinet member against a young staffer—one who worked on Pruitt’s attorney general campaign in Oklahoma, followed him to Washington, and by all accounts had been one of his most loyal aides at the EPA.

But it also showed a side of the EPA chief that top advisers say is not always readily apparent to the public. Though Pruitt demands loyalty among those in his inner circle, he has not reciprocated it to his aides, even as they face a legal and public-relations backlash stemming from his conduct at the agency. Sources say he’s actively undermined the reputations of former and current staffers, with campaigns that former senior EPA officials have described as “ratfucking.”

https://www.thedailybeast.com/teacher-c ... -to-resign
First, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was chased out of a Mexican restaurant. Then press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was refused service in an eatery, which was later attacked by Donald Trump. Now embattled Scott Pruitt, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, has been confronted by an angry teacher and mother who urged the under-fire official to resign before he's forced out. A video posted on Facebook shows Kristin Mink calling out a silent Pruitt at lunch Monday, telling him: “We deserve to have somebody at the EPA who actually does protect our environment, somebody who believes in climate change and takes it seriously for the benefit of all of us, including our children. I would urge you to resign before your scandals push you out.” Mink later told HuffPost: “He had no defense. He had no explanation. He had no apology. He had nothing to say. When you are a government official... you are supposed to be directly working for the citizens that you’re serving. He’s a public servant. When you’re in that position, you should want to hear from the people who you are supposed to be taking care of.”

"Scott Pruitt directly appealed to President Donald Trump this spring to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions and let him run the Department of Justice instead, according to three people familiar with the proposal."

So... Trump and Sessions and SHS leaked this as prep for firing Pruitts ass? I'd also speculate that Pruitt has been getting way too much of the Prez's Divinely Ordained Press for FATSOTUS to be comfortable with, so he has to go.

One adviser to Trump described getting rid of Pruitt as a Kelly priority before he ends his chief of staff term (if one believes it’s really over). Increasingly Trump is said to have become exasperated by the daily Pruitt corruption allegations. Some expect action soon

Nope, the "bad optics" (corruption and ethics charges). Because Trump's optics are AWESOME.

Ya know, learning that, it occurs to me that Trump might have been keeping Pruitt around so when he does fire Sessions, he could put in Pruitt as AG and avoid a confirmation hearing to fill the post. Pruitt pro quo is he shuts down Mueller.

Are confirmations transferable? I'd hope that any AG would have to be confirmed, even if they'd already been confirmed for another position.

Unfortunately, I think once you have been confirmed, you have been confirmed. I don't think changing cabinet positions makes a difference.
