In any normal administration, a cabinet secretary who had their position abruptly countermanded by POTUS to the cameras on the White House lawn would have resigned about 30 seconds afterwards.

Of course, in a normal administration, Secretary Amway wouldn't have a fucking cabinet-level job. :madguy:
I thoroughly disliked her back in the 90's when I was still in Michigan. My opinion of her has dropped exponentially. I did not think it was possible to go lower.

Taking support from the needy and giving it to the privileged is her family MO. When her husband was running for governor, he was gong on and on about the evils of the government spending. At the same time, his family was demanding Orlando build them a new arena t replace the one they built less then 20 years before. Betsy is just carrying on the tradition.

The president announced today that he would personally donate five of his trips to Mar-a-lago to fully fund the Special Olymipics in the upcoming budget.

In other news, the Republican led congress has agreed to actually produce and approve a budget this year rather than push through continuing resolutions to fund the government.

Brian Klaas @brianklaas

Gosh someone should really tell Betsy DeVos and Donald Trump that they actually have control over what they propose to fund and cut in their own budgets. Would be a revelation to both of them it seems, since they keep bashing their own budget proposals.Brian Klaas added,
Erica L. Green @EricaLG

DeVos statement on President Trump supporting Special Olympics: "I am pleased and grateful the president and I see eye to eye on this issue, and that he has decided to fund our Special Olympics grant. This is funding I have fought for behind the scenes the last several years."

To which Trump replied, Fuck the law. I don't give a fuck about the law. I want my fucking money.

Twitler makes decisions based on how they might affect his "brand".

He watches the Tee Vee, and when he sees that something isn't going to help his brand, he changes course.

I love the image of him watching himself on the Tee Vee as he is praising a member of Congress who is suing an imaginary cow. This is what our Founding Fathers envisioned for us, lo these many moons ago.

Trump Names Lori Loughlin Education Secretary
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The shakeup in the Trump Administration continued on Wednesday as Donald Trump named a fellow television personality, Lori Loughlin, to be the new Secretary of Education.

In making the announcement, Trump praised Loughlin for her “disruptive approach” to college admissions and expressed hope that she could bring the same brand of innovative thinking to the Department of Education.

DeVos rolls back Obama-era policy that aimed to curb abuse from for-profit colleges
BY BROOKE SEIPEL - 06/28/19 08:45 PM EDT

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos moved Friday to roll back a policy created under the Obama administration that aimed to prevent for-profit colleges from predatory practices.

The Department of Education posted a notice online, saying the Gainful Employment rule created in 2014 would be repealed entirely starting July 1, 2020.

Under Gainful Employment rules, for-profit colleges were required to share student debt-to-earnings ratios to prove their programs were worth the cost and adequately educated students. Colleges that consistently left graduates with low incomes and high debt would lose federal funding.

In the notice posted Friday, however, DeVos officials argued that the rule was flawed and other factors outside of program quality could contribute to a graduate's future salary.

"Again and again, Secretary DeVos proves she only cares about protecting for-profit colleges, no matter how many students they swindle," Aaron Ament, president of the National Student Legal Defense Network, said in a statement.

Government threatens funding for Middle East studies program it sees as too favorable to Islam[

Valerie StraussSeptember 19 at 6:50 PM

The Education Department is threatening to withhold federal grant money from a Middle East studies program, saying it advances an ideological agenda and promotes a positive view of Islam while virtually ignoring Judaism, Christianity and other religions.

The agency ordered the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies to revise its offerings or risk losing its $235,000 federal grant.

Conservatives have long accused universities of harboring anti-Semitic bias and have called for probes into course offerings. But critics in higher education accused the administration of politicizing colleges and universities and violating academic freedom with this latest action.

The letter, sent in August, was published this week in the Federal Register, and was seen as a move to put other universities on notice. It was not clear whether other programs have been asked to revise their offerings.

DeVos violated a court order to stop collecting on the debts of Corinthian College students. Now, they want her held in contempt.

By Danielle Douglas-Gabriel October 4

Despite a court order barring the Education Department from collecting on the federal student loans of former Corinthian College students, the agency continued to pursue the debts. Some former students of the defunct for-profit college had their paychecks garnished. Others had their tax refunds seized by the federal government.

Now, those students are demanding a federal judge hold Education Secretary Betsy DeVos in contempt. A hearing is scheduled for Monday.

“Secretary DeVos continues to show that she thinks she and the Department of Education are above the law,” said Toby Merrill, director at the Project on Predatory Student Lending, a legal-aid group representing the students. “Let’s be clear about the facts: The department admitted that it blatantly violated a court order that we won.”

Wonder if she'll double or triple down, she seems the type, court orders don't apply to her and all, she's speshul. Is jail time an option? I think, to get the point across a nice week's stay in the DC jail and a staggering fine would be much more appropriate, for her and her lawyers. They were aware, they worked for her, they didn't do anything, they can join her.

DeVos forgives 1,500 student loans amid federal lawsuit
BY JESSICA CAMPISI - 11/08/19 08:00 PM EST

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said Friday that she would forgive the loans of more than 1,500 students who attended two for-profit colleges that closed last year.

Students who attended the Art Institute of Colorado and the Illinois Institute of Art between Jan. 20, 2018 and the end of the year will have their loans canceled, while students who went to 24 other schools owned by the same company — the Dream Center — can have their loans canceled if they enrolled after June 29, 2018, DeVos said, according to the Associated Press.

The Dream Center shut down last year, one of a series of for-profit institutions that have closed down in recent years.
