Attorney General William Barr has directed the Federal Bureau of Prisons to resume capital punishment, nearly two decades after the death penalty was last used at the federal level.

Barr has also directed the acting director of the BOP, Hugh Hurwitz, to schedule the executions of five death row inmates.

In 1989, Trump bought this ad to inflame public sentiment against teens known as the Central Park Five, who were later exonerated by DNA evidence.

Today, Trump's DOJ announced plan to "Bring Back the Death Penalty." Last federal execution was in 2003. https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/federal- ... cade-lapse

Fat Nixon seems to like the idea of the death penalty for crimes other than murder. Barr won't be far behind.

Not as bad as the death penalty, but it has the same autocratic tone

Low Barr: Don't give me that crap about security, just put the backdoors in the encryption, roars US Attorney General
I don't want to hear about hackers and keys, nerds – make it happen, or we'll pass a law making it happen
It might come as a surprise to fat boy, but other governments don't have to follow US law (remember the Clipper Chip?).

It might come as a surprise that those looking for really good encryptions will use algorithm implementations without backdoors.

Will Peter from Family Guy Barr move Tsarnev to the head of the line after Trump pardons Dylann Roof?

Surely not. But maybe they'll make it a law that we have to wear some identifying insignia if we go out in public. Let me think....

Well, that one has to wait. He first needs to sign an EO to eliminate his "enemies of the state," the news media that are not Fox or NewsMax.

WaPo: Barr books Trump’s hotel for $30,000 holiday party:
Experts say private, 200-person party adds to questions about attorney general’s independence from president.

Attorney General William P. Barr is planning a holiday treat for his boss.

Last month, Barr booked President Trump’s D.C. hotel for a 200-person holiday party in December that is likely to deliver Trump’s business more than $30,000 in revenue.

Barr signed a contract, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post, for a “Family Holiday Party” in the hotel’s Presidential Ballroom Dec. 8. The party will feature a buffet and a four-hour open bar for about 200 people.

Barr is paying for the event himself and chose the venue only after other hotels, including the Willard and the Mayflower, were booked, according to a Justice Department official. The official said the purpose of Barr’s party wasn’t to curry favor with the president.

* * *

“Career ethics officials were consulted, and they determined that ethics rules did not prohibit him from hosting his annual party at the Trump hotel,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the party is not a Justice Department event.

He has this party every year, but doesn't have a standing* reservation at his "preferred" locale? Let me put on my tin foil hat. I'm guessing he booked it a while back but didn't let the news trickle out until he was sure the others were booked.

*Or at least have the experience to know he needs to book it immediately after the preceding party.

If he had any integrity whatsoever, he would already have tendered his resignation after reading the obviously abbreviated version of Trump's call with Zelensky.

Oh come on, give him a chance to clean out his desk and say good-bye.

Just curious, has anyone seen anything that possibly could cost Barr his law license?

I just saw that Nancy Pelosi said on Morning Joe this morning that Barr was a man with a great reputation.

Yeh, a great reputation for being unethical and corrupt.

For being a cover-up artist, maybe. Bill Safire, hardly a liberal back then, contemporaneously referred to Barr during the H.W. Bush Administration as the "Cover-Up General."

I just watched that clip. It got confusing, but I think she was saying it’s the acting DNI who is a man with a great reputation. Pelosi says Barr has gone rogue (gone? Not still is?)

I’ll see if I can watch it again. She did say Barr has gone rogue (yeah, about 40 years ago). I do agree that Maguire seems to have had a good reputation before this. I did a short rant about that somewhere here yesterday. He made a big mistake when he took the DNI position with this administration.

Yeah, it got very confusing. She was talking about Barr going rogue and then I think she switched to talking about the acting DNI breaking the law when he took the complaint to the DOJ (Barr), instead of congress. Have i mentioned how much I’d like to see Barr go down with this shipwreck?
