We're the Geritol Set. Our time has come and gone. Time to step aside gracefully.
I won't argue with this, but remember what we were saying about Nancy Pelosi just a couple of months ago ;)

This surprises me. As a NY resident, I've been a Bernie fan for a decade, and have despised 45 since his first loathsome appearance on the scene in the 1970s. IMO, the only things they have in common are a NYC accent and their cultural generation.

It's a subliminal thing for me. Perhaps his anger triggers my former domestic abuse lawyer or adult child of an alcoholic parent. His divisiveness reminds me of Trump for sure. His dismissive attitude toward of women of color is a red flag too, also. Why not release his tax returns? That's another bugaboo.

For me it's his behaviors not his policies that cause warning sirens to go off in my headbone.

Thanks for the explanation. :bighug: He is pretty dismissive of the ideas of just about everybody that isn't him, that's for sure.* ;-) But what you see is what you get. Meaning he means what he says. IMO his makes the Venn diagram of Bernie + 45 pretty much two non-overlapping circles.

I don't see myself voting for him in the primary again (I'm on the younger, less male, less white bandwagon) but I will gladly vote for him if the Young People decide he is the one and manage to nominate him. Seriously, there is no deep dark there.

* I listened to him for an hour or so once a week on Thom Hartman for years, so I'm an eggspert!

Des Moines Register
Bernie Sanders 2.0: How his Iowa caucus campaign has changed — and how it hasn't ...

Sanders acknowledged the criticism of his 2016 campaign for being too male-oriented and too white.

Since then, he's realigned much of the top brass and has hired ACLU national political director Faiz Shakir as his national campaign manager.

In Des Moines, two immigrants introduced Sanders, including Vanessa Marcano Kelly, who is originally from Venezuela and who became a U.S. citizen two days prior.

"I think those were valid criticisms," the senator told the Register. "And I think what the people of America will see in this campaign is a much more diverse campaign in every sense of the word. And I think that’s the right thing and a good thing."
Adding:
Politico: 'A major player': Sanders gets props from the Democratic establishment

Democratic senators are surprisingly open to the Vermont independent as the nominee if he manages to emerge from the crowded primary.

The Hill
Sanders announces first staff hires in Iowa, New Hampshire ...

Sanders tapped Misty Rebik, a Democratic operative also involved in advocacy work, as his Iowa state director.

Rebik served as the campaign manager for Cathy Glasson’s (D) failed 2018 gubernatorial bid and comes to the campaign from One Iowa, where she led LGBTQ advocacy work. She also helped start the first-ever transgender care program with Planned Parenthood in Iowa.

Jess Mazour will join the campaign as well after working with the farm and environment team at Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement for more than six years.

Sanders also hired Pete D'Alessandro as a senior adviser on Iowa. D'Alessandro worked on several political campaigns in Iowa and other states, including Sanders’s 2016 presidential bid. ...

Meanwhile, in New Hampshire, Sanders hired Joe Caiazzo as his state director. Caiazzo managed Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse’s (D-R.I.) successful reelection campaign in 2018 and served as Sanders’s political director in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in 2016.

Sanders also tapped Carli Stevenson, a New Hampshire native, as his deputy state director and communications director.

Stevenson served as Sanders’s New Hampshire deputy communications director in 2016 and currently works for the online advocacy group Demand Progress.

Kurt Ehrenberg, Sanders’s 2016 New Hampshire political director, rejoins the campaign as a senior adviser, the statement also said.

FWIW - 2 other recent Bernie Rallies, for "completeness" and comparison. There are probably professional media videos but these were two that I got Facebok notifications for. Sorry but don't have time to google for more/better.

Fox News was live.
about a week ago · (Mar 16, 2019)
Democratic presidential hopeful U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders holds a rally in Henderson, Nev.
ABBC3_SPOILER_SHOW
Real Progressives was live.
on Friday · (Friday, March 22)
Bernie Sanders San Diego, CA rally 3.22.19
To avoid other people talking, crowds and a couple of introductory speakers, you will have to forward to get to Bernie speaking around 1:20:00 (or 56:00 remaining)
ABBC3_SPOILER_SHOW
ETA: Bob and I went to the San Diego rally. Earlier I saw a post that had still photos and gave a better idea of the crowd size.
It was bigger than it seemed to me while I was at the rally. But I only stayed on one side of the stage area. A few years ago when Bernie was at the San Diego Convention Center, that crowd seemed huge.

LA Times
Bernie Sanders’ immense fundraising haul reflects a resilient movement

Bernie Sanders put to rest any suggestion that the movement behind him has faded since his first run for president as his campaign team announced Tuesday that he had raised an immense amount of cash from a huge number of donors.

Sanders’ campaign collected $18.2 million from 525,000 donors – most of them under age 39 – in the first quarter of 2019, campaign officials said. The intimidating show of financial force will likely position Sanders to compete aggressively in every key state, giving him more resources than most of his rivals.

Sanders’ fundraising announcement was one of several events in recent days that have begun to shape the contours of a presidential race that has already veered in some unexpected directions. ...

For Sanders, whose average contribution in the first fundraising quarter was just $20, the largest number of contributors came from California. Some 97,000 Californians gave to him, reflecting his strength even in a part of the country where Harris, a popular home state senator, will also be on the ballot.

The Guardian
Bernie in the Fox's den: Sanders takes anti-Trump pitch straight to 'state TV'

The Democratic frontrunner will speak at a Fox News town hall. He says it’s necessary to speak to Trump voters. Others disagree

Bernie Sanders will finish a four-day tour of Trump Country on Monday, with a town hall on the president’s favorite network: Fox News.

It is an unexpected partnership, between a self-described democratic socialist and a media outlet that dedicates primetime to pundits who rail against a purported “creep” of socialism.

The event will be staged in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a state Trump won by less than 1%, and it will be moderated by Fox anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.

Sanders is the first Democratic presidential candidate to appear on the network for such an event. He says it is a way to speak directly to Trump supporters, to make the case that the president is a “pathological liar” who has misled the working class. The booking is also important for Fox News, which was banned from hosting a Democratic primary debate.

Supposedly today - but still, not yet. Funny how he was all over Hillary's returns, but has been so bashful about showing us his. Most likely because he knows that Mr. Owner-of-Three-Homes is gonna have a hard time reconciling his self-proclaimed "socialist" moniker with his millionaire status.

Bernie’s taxes are fucked up. Some examples:

2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013= All were edited/revised in the box that asks for your self employment income to determine additional taxes owed 😬😬

2014, 2011, 2009= Not full returns, and almost all years are missing attachments

Bernie’s taxes are fucked up. CONT

2013: Jane’s “small antique business” had $3,832 in gross sales, but a net profit of -$938 bc she wrote off a bunch of meals (no taxes owed on negative income)

2012: $5,300 rental income but negative -$25,256 in rental expenses? 😬 Yikes!

The deductions and write offs in general are pretty ridiculous. Bernie has written off $8,000 a year in meals on a few returns

Mysterious farm income was not only revised in 5 different returns, but required boxes were left blank or whited out

Charity deductions but no deets

I’m going through my old self employment taxes, and I don’t have any with different fonts

And I have a 0 in Net Farm Profit. Bernie has a income there.

Some Bernie people swear its standard or Turbo Tax default but idk my taxes def don’t look like this. His look bonkers.

The sketchiest part feels like the deductions. When you have a W2 job, your income and taxes are straight forward. But they always have self employment income/unnamed gift contributions, etc. where they can create tons of deductions to offset how much they owe in taxes.

They have so many deductions it plummets them in super low tax brackets- like 15% making over 200K?! It honestly feels like they create side jobs/investments for opportunities to create deductions. And yeah I think they just make up a lot of deductions to get out of taxes.

Transparency: Harris 2018 return is 100+ pages, Klobuchar is 80 pages, O'Rourke 2017 is 70 pages.

Here we go again...
Meet the Republicans pulling for Bernie
Some GOP lawmakers would like nothing more than a democratic socialist to be the opposition's presidential nominee.
By BURGESS EVERETT 05/07/2019 05:01 AM EDT

Republicans like their chances of keeping the Senate in 2020. But there’s one thing they think would all but seal the deal: Bernie Sanders as the Democratic presidential nominee.

Some GOP incumbents are practically cheering him on, confident there’s no way a self-described democratic socialist could win a general election against President Donald Trump and that he’d drag other Democrats on the ballot with him.

“It would be good for us to have a nominee like that,” said Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), who is up for reelection next year and sounded downright giddy about the prospect of Sanders representing Democrats at the top of the ticket.

Trump and the Senate GOP have explicitly designed their 2020 strategy around Sanders, beating the anti-socialism drum incessantly and attempting to tether every Democrat on the ballot to what they call a creep away from capitalism and toward collectivism.

And though he’s consistently trailing former Vice President Joe Biden at this early stage, some top Republicans said they sincerely believe Sanders has a legitimate shot at winning.

“A lot of people think that in that crowded field, he could break out,” said Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.).

He added: “If we can run a race against a person that’s an out-of-the-closet socialist and promoting socialist ideas, it’s a great contrast for us.”
