The Hill
GOP has few takers for 2020 convention ...

The Democratic National Committee has been slower to begin its site selection process. The party has sent requests for proposals to eight cities — Atlanta, Birmingham, Denver, Houston, Miami Beach, Milwaukee, New York and San Francisco. Michael Tyler, a DNC spokesman, said the party expects its selection process to take a year.

The above the fold headline in today's Houston Chronicle. :-D

Houston ‘seriously considering’ bid for 2020 Democratic National Convention

https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texa ... 905420.php
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said Thursday that the city is “seriously considering” a bid for the Democratic National Convention in 2020, joining seven other cities that have taken initial steps to host the event.

Democratic National Committee officials confirmed that Houston is one of eight cities that were sent formal proposal requests after responding to initial inquiries to gauge their interest.

:snippity:

Other cities that have expressed interest in the Democratic convention are Atlanta, Birmingham, Denver, Miami Beach, Milwaukee, New York City and San Francisco.

CNN
Exclusive: Democrats, anticipating heated primary, set earlier 2020 convention date

(CNN) Democrats will hold their convention in 2020 earlier than they have in more than two decades, Democratic operatives tell CNN, partly out of anticipation of a crowded and contentious primary.

The Democratic National Convention is slated to take place from July 13 to July 16, 2020, almost two weeks earlier than the 2016 convention.

Democratic National Committee officials, including chair Tom Perez and interim DNC CEO Mary Beth Cahill, have considered a series of factors in deciding to host their biggest political event earlier than normal, party operatives tell CNN. But a key reason for the decision is the expectation the 2020 primary could be a combative affair with more than two dozen Democrats running, making it essential that the party allow more time for tensions to cool after a nominee is officially selected.

"The Democratic Party is committed to organizing everywhere and holding the convention in mid-July allows us to continue our work doing exactly that," Perez said in a statement. "My priority is to ensure that the 2020 nominating process is the most open, fair, transparent and inclusive in our party's history."

Convention stuff happens inside in the A/C and right wing protesters get beat down by the heat, humidity and afternoon thunderstorms. Sound like a plan.

Does anyone remember the Republican convention in 1968 in Miami? More people were killed during that convention than the Democratic convention in Chicago but the press made it appear that the violence in Chicago was worse. Of course it was all unarmed blacks killed in Miami so that didn't count.

July 13-16 is still OK, hurricane season is on from June 1 but mostly happens in August and September. Florida would be great, it's going to play a major role in 2020. And sure, there are enclosed areas that are weatherproof. Also, Miami has the strongest building codes in Florida and perhaps the US, it's not like Tampa and the GOP convention hurricane (that was the week of August 27, 2012, in Tampa with Willard and his boy). But they should shut up about this until after the midterms!
