Please, no.

We're witnessing the ongoing disaster that came from the stupid notion that anyone is qualified to hold our nation's highest office. Let's not contribute further to the denigration of the office of POTUS and the nation overall by promoting yet another utterly unqualified candidate - one who has nothing but a high 'Q' score to justify the idea that she should run.

I find the notion of Oprah running and perhaps winning the presidency absolutely appalling. No governing experience whatsoever, just like trump.

I am against any business person with no political experience running for the presidency. There's a whole different skill set involved in being a successful business person than what you need to be a successful politician. Business people - especially those like Trump, Oprah, and Perot - ran their own businesses and could unilaterally make decisions. Yes, you sometimes had to deal with other folks, but you were in ultimately in charge. Being a politician is a whole other mindset. I think there's a lot of good to be learned from first being a governor, senator, or representative. You are forced to work with people you disagree with.

I agree wholeheartedly with you after reading the Tweet machine and fellow Fogobowzer comments. I didn't say I would vote for her. There are many more qualified individuals. I reacted emotionally. Thank you, Fogbow, for directing me down a more sane and educated path. :-D

I just get this mental image of President Winfrey addressing the United Nations, "YOU get a Patriot Missile System! And YOU get a Patriot Missile System! Everyone gets a Patriot Missile System!"

Re: an Oprah candidacy I'm reminded of Bruce Sterling's remarks the week after the election:
It’s hard to write of momentous events in the hot, crispy, pan-fried moment in which events are momentous. But I know that the events of this week are just a part of stranger, larger things that are coming. During my lifetime there’s always been something sacrosanct about the American Presidency. Not anymore. Yes, it will still be the office of a chief executive with atomic bombs and a huge military and spy apparatus. But it’s no longer the lay Papacy for a unipolar superpower. Like other aspects of the digital landscape, the Presidency is just up for grabs.
Thing is, I can think of a few good reasons to support an Oprah candidacy. And more than a few bad reasons to oppose one. Ideally, I'd like my candidates for high office to have some actual political experience before they run, but I'm worried that's not the case any more and that maybe the only thing to do is to ride the wave and try to hang on. Anyway, I think this is largely an idle question at this point and one that reveals a lot more about national frustrations and aspirations than anything else.

ETA: NBC tweeted this:

Yesterday a tweet about the Golden Globes and Oprah Winfrey was sent by a third party agency for NBC Entertainment in real time during the broadcast. It is in reference to a joke made during the monologue and not meant to be a political statement. We have since removed the tweet.

I will go on record right now as saying this is a bad idea, and Oprah would make a bad president.

I will also go on record right now as saying that if she wins the Democratic nomination, she has my vote.

I'd vote for her over the incumbent, Cruz, Ryan, or Newt without hesitation. But not necessarily over any Republican.

I hope we have better options come primary season. I'm not voting for Bernie again. I'm still a big Kamala Harris fan.

(and to be clear, I voted for Bernie in the primary, not the general.)

My assumption is that she would be running against Trump, or against Pence or Ryan if Trump is no longer in the picture. It is possible, though hardly probable, that the Republican party will return to common sense by 2020; should that happen, my vote could change; but considering that not a single Republican presidents or nominees in my lifetime has had an iota of common sense, I'm fairly confident in saying the Democratic nominee will vet my vote, no matter how appallingly under qualified he or she is, because the Democratic candidate will still be more qualified and competent than his or her Republican counterpart.

Comparing Oprah to the current resident of the White House is a pretty low bar.

Yep. My own personal conspiracy theory is that this is an evil feline plot. The housecats of the world worked hard to get Trump into power. When the time is right and the universe itself hangs in the balance, our dark cat overlords will give us a choice: recognise them as our Lords and Masters and agree to enter into a state of perpetual servitude, and in exchange, they will save us all; or take our chances with Trump. As far as I'm concerned there is really no choice. Would Master like more catnip?

The only problem with that theory is that we're already in a state of perpetual servitude to them.
