Re: I am man

Ok, so claiming a right is not have you acquire a right. Not unless you can enforce your possession of that right, no. You wait for your master to grant it to you then correct? Normally, no. We acquire them by coercive force thus becoming the "master." Because flow of power wise, only the master ca...

Re: I am man

1. he said all rights come from humans, so if I am the only human it seems by his definition, I need other humans to confer the right to defend myself. A complete logical non sequitur . It breaks down on so many levels it is breathtaking. If you are the only human, the species is already by functio...

Re: I am man

All rights are created by humans? Yes. That's a strange concept, who else supports this notion? Friedrich Nietzsche. Iain MacSaorsa. Bob Seidensticker. Others. Why? So if alone all my life, at 18 years old, I am attacked by a bear, I have to wait for other humans to arrive before I can defend mysel...

Re: I am man

You never had those freedoms, even in nature you can not kill for no reason. For starters, I never said for no reason. I gave a reason; because I didn't like them. No objective survey of human history can avoid identifying vast periods of history where human on human slaughter took place simply bec...

Re: I am man

By human rights, I take it you mean the UD in 1948? No. I don't. By "human rights" (as distinguished from "natural rights") I mean that all "rights" are created by humans. They do not exist independently of the human beings who conceive and embrace them. None are found in nature. None are divinely ...

Just some guy wrote:Oh, you give up freedoms eh lol.

What freedoms did you give up then would you say?
The freedom to kill people I do not like. The freedom to take property, land, wealth and women by force. The freedom to piss upstream from where you drink.

Stuff like that.

Re: The Big Bang vs. the Book of Genesis

One of the problems with this discussion is that as human beings we are comfortable with explanations that are somehow intuitive. But since much of cosmology operates at scales that are not our own (either macro or micro) we are limited to explanations that are usually analogies rather than actual d...

Yes. The 101st is at Ft. Campell, KY.

Re: Senator says Air Force not sufficiently supporting paratrooper training

Dude... 82d Airborne here. Paratroopers are necessary because we are manly men who do manly things in a manly way with other men. And women. The real strength of units like the 82d and 101st (which isn't actually airborne anymore) is that they are large, light infantry units with essentially no depe...

Re: I am man

My understanding of it is this. Men in nature come together to form a society for mutual benefits, in order to do so they must bind themselves together so that obligations can be enforced. Otherwise what is to keep the members from just enjoying the benefits and saying fuck the obligations? Not sur...

So are you saying that upon entering the age of majority that we did not decide to stay were we are and thus consent to be a part of the body? The second component is more subtle, but should be made explicit given the paths that this discussion has taken: is the "basic social contract" a contract. I don't think it is. It's contract-like in the sense that there are reciprocal obligations between citizen and sovereign, but it lacks many of ...
