Republicans Behaving Badly

This does not end his problems. Taking bribes as "loans" rather than "gifts" is just as illegal, although the value of the loan/bribe is somewhat less. That would go more to sentencing than to whether he committed a crime.

Congressman Weiner's weiner problem

just out of my own curiousity, can somebody give me examples of a man who had stand next to his wife during a presser where he admits being a jackass?Bill Clinton. More than once. And before anyone defends Anthony Weiner because of that, Mr. Weiner, you are no Bill Clinton.

There's a very simple solution to this marijuana smuggling problem. We should grow it here, and it should be of a high enough quality that we become a net exporter of it rather than an importer.

The motion to dismiss is a bit long winded. And doesn't do as good a job as I would have hoped had I been the magistrate in demonstrating that he is a judicial officer with immunity. It comes, not with a bang but a whimper, at the very end of the supporting memorandum."Workmanlike" may be a l...

It won't surprise me to hear the term "carpetbagger" used a few times prior to the August 2014 primary election.Among less pleasant terms. I also expect the "bored housewife" thing to emerge again.

Hijack this thread

I once played "DREAN" on a triple word score in a game. I had basically made up the word. I doubt it is in the official dictionary, but we'd agreed on the Oxford English Dictionary.I insisted it was a real word, and got challenged. Turns out it's in there. (If you're wondering why, it is an obsolete...

Also, I am now going to take a 24 hour timeout from this thread. And save reading it for a time when I have prepared myself for not flying off the handle. Which doesn't mean I won't, but it's less likely this way. I think this might prevent some of the more snippy back and forth bullshit that I have...

It is my opinion, however, that Manning is a traitor to this country, whether he can be convicted of treason or not. My opinion is not going to change.Mine might. "My opinion is not going to change" is the sort of thing a fanatic says.

Let me speak seriously for a moment.I'm not as confident as some of Snowden's defenders are in the wisdom of his decisions, choices and friends. In fact, I think Snowden is a dunce and possibly a dupe of Glenn Greenwald.I also don't think Snowden is a whistleblower in any sense of the word. He lied ...

TraitorNounA person who betrays a friend, country, principle, etc.Take it up with the dictionary writers. When talking about someone in prison being prosecuted for a crime, an accusation of treason has a very specific meaning.

Bradley Manning willfully signed his rights away to obey the UCMJ when he enlisted. Different case, different legal system, etc.Utter bullshit, and frankly an insult to the UCMJ itself, which actually has in many respects due process protections superior to those in civilian courts.

That still doesn't mean he's not a traitor. He is.Which displays a near-total ignorance of what the word "traitor" even means. Name a legal standard under which he could be convicted of treason in any court. And by this, I mean Manning, about whom I think you made the statement, not about Snowden, a...

Obergefell v. Kasich (Recognition of Same Sex Marriage Contracted in Other State)

Ohio law, it would appear, applies full and credit with respect to marriages fairly strictly. (Some states have a "public policy" exception to otherwise granting full faith and credit to "foreign" marriages.) But where's the discussion about section 2 of DOMA, which was not addressed (directly) by S...

Shouldn't the expression be: "it's AS strong as horseradish?"At the risk of threadjacking my own thread, generally the elision of a word in an idiomatic expression is beyond cavil.

I was cautiously optimistic about this campaign and hopeful for redemption. I'd thought Anthony Weiner needed to go away, but maybe could be allowed to come back.No more.Seriously, dude. GTFO.
