Re: Desperation Acres

Thanks RTH, it's a more general problem too, not just in the US. I don't know about Switzerland, but Scandinavia certainly has/had a lot of Polish people doing building trade work (painting, carpentry, etc.), also the UK. This reflects a failure to train enough people in these occupations (despite g...

Re: Is Anyone Just Tired?

We're now having people fly in without proof of accommodations. Incomers must have proof of where they will be staying so the police can check on them to ensure quarantine. It's happening on a few islands these days. No proof of accommodations, no release. They can book a flight out immediately or ...

I'm really bad at the edit quotes thing, I got to keep it simple... That's what I figured, too. It's cool. :grouphug: Apologies if it seemed like a dig or complaint, it wasn't! It simply amused me to see that my very temporary misinterpretation of Slimy stupidity had been so far off-target. Everyth...

Re: CHRISTOPHER BRUCE: The Mighty Spork

Great, Sporky wants to be the new Ted Visner. Sad thing is, that would probably be a step up for him. Even growing pot seems like too much work for this guy. Based on Sporky's recent fractured (in)activities, it seems highly improbable that he would stick at it for the time it takes for seeds to be...

Re: CHRISTOPHER BRUCE: The Mighty Spork

Re the crowds-to-be in Fort Bruce, a.k.a. Spork's Folly: does Sporky have any friends or followers? He's not charismatic, he's not promising wealth, luxury or salvation, he's not promoting a new idealistic community. No, he's offering a facility-free camp surrounded by a wire fence listening to his ...

Re: Desperation Acres

Thanks Volkonski. Of course those are the reasons why migrant workers fill those roles in (relatively) rich countries. But a government without a plan for possible loss of that labor force for any reason is, in my opinion, negligent in terms of its planning. How to prepare for it? I don't know. I'm ...

Nevermind. I took a chance, and followed the NYT link, and it actually let me read the article.
IIRC, the NYT announced a couple weeks back that all their Covid-19 articles would be outside the paywall for anyone to read.

Re: Desperation Acres

I've been unhappy about the reliance on migrant workers in developed countries for years. I've no problem with the workers themselves, it's not a race issue or a "they're taking our jobs" issue. I'm grateful for the work they do. I simply feel that national security for any country should include it...

In the play school world, DeMoreta-Folch is a pretend judge, Trussel was merely a pretend Grand Jury Foreman. Trussel got $250 from Dowdell. But Trussell was a Real Grand Jury Foreman too, wasn't he? That ought to count for something! And Roger Dowdell will expect to get this $40K bond back, of cou...

:nope: :fingerwag: Viruses , not viri . It doesn't really have a plural in Latin, and, if it did, it wouldn't be viri because it's a neuter noun (meaning venom or acrid goo). Sorry, but using "viri" makes the writer look as woefully ignorant as a woo-merchant. I have never heard "viri" from any comp...

Azithromycin is a high potency anti-biotic, it does not work against viral infections. She's still stupid. Re: Corona Virus Whackadoodles, Whackjobs and Conspiracy Theories (other than from the White House)

As I recall, silver is used in filters and other things, but the point the conspiraloons don't get is that it only works on direct contact. It will kill what it comes in contact with but there is no way it can get all the virus. The ones feeding their kids Vit C aren't going to hurt them unless the...

re Silver. iirc silver ions floating in water kill of bacteria and are used in tablet form to purify water for drinking. Didn't bother to look it up just now. Some religious leaders appear not to understand that their faith in the supernatural is misplaced because the coronavirus certainly does not believe in any gods. But perhaps these shepherds like to sacrifice their flocks.
