Re: New Diseases - Coronavirus

Great family history! There is an area in cooler upcountry Maui full of very Germanic looking homes built many decades ago. Many of the descendants speak English and German.

Re: New Diseases - Coronavirus

It's official - Hawaii is shut down. The governor has ordered "any individual who arrives from international areas or the continental U.S. will be subject to a two-week quarantine. It applies to all travelers, whether Hawai`i resident or visitor, and regardless of the mode of travel."

Re: New Diseases - Coronavirus

For everyone here who is disgusted with the White House pressers, here's another problem. They don't have live open captioning. They don't have an ASL interpreter. (Closed captioning might be available, I haven't checked, but CC is a very poor and inaccurate substitute for live captioning.) From the...

Re: Virtual Drunk Tank

Not drunk, but give me some time. Picked up (lots of) wine, dog food, people food, and cookies on my way home. Costco had a lot of empty aisles. I wanted bleach, but none available. Island favorites, like mahi, were limited to one container. And of course TP and paper towels are limited to one per s...

Re: New Diseases - Coronavirus

Crikey. I posted this too fast, while saying good-by to coworkers and packing up my office, and wondering what life will be like when I return. The correct statement is: 11 cases at 11 am yesterday, 37 cases confirmed at noon today. More than tripled in 25 hours. :( Before 11am yesterday, there were...

Re: New Diseases - Coronavirus

Before 11am yesterday, there were 22 confirmed cases. Just before noon today - 37.

DOH admits that it would only test the most obviously ill people due to limited test kits. Now that private labs are upping the number the tests, numbers are rising quickly.

Re: Coronavirus and the election

Hawaii Dem Party is sending out another round of mail-in ballots for those who had planned to vote in person. No polling stations will be open on 4/4.

See, Ohio, it's not that hard to fix the problem.

Re: On a Personal Level--Coronavirus COVID-19 Cancellations, etc.

I'm going to have to pay more attention to the mental health thread. :( My son works for a major nonprofit, but contributions suddenly reduced to a tiny flow. He's working from home, but told me that no one knows when that might suddenly end. And that got me thinking that when I pack up my work tomo...

Re: On a Personal Level--Coronavirus COVID-19 Cancellations, etc.

Hawaii cases jumped again. Yesterday, 16, today 26. I went back to my office today, and only 2 out of 14 are still there. Tomorrow I pack my stuff and leave for who knows how long. A laptop will be loaded with my files for me to pick up sometime in the future. Curfew begins tomorrow. Interesting tim...

Re: New Diseases - Coronavirus

Hawaii covid-19 confirmed cases just rose to 16. So 0 to 16 since March 4th. Each island is asking tourists to go elsewhere (preferably stay home), and shutdowns are rising quickly. Just now I received a notice that my island has a curfew & more: The curfew will be in effect from 9 p.m. through 5 a....

Re: On a Personal Level--Coronavirus COVID-19 Cancellations, etc.

I had a call today from a family with a funeral next week. The funeral parlor warned them that there might be new rules by then. I don't know why I was called. But I sympathized. Thanks to the fogbowsers, I suggested they consider a small funeral for very close family and friends, followe...

Re: Joseph "Joe" Robinette Biden Jr. 2020 - 4/25/19 He's In!

I shouldn't have looked. So apparently the DNC and Biden put voters in danger while St. Bernie urged voters to not go to the polls. So now Biden and Perez are murderers. Did I get that right?

I haven't looked at my FB for weeks. Maybe I'll see if any Bros are in my timeline. Or maybe not.

Lots of store closings. Saks, Off 5th, Nordstroms (and Rack), Macy's, Vans and more. I wonder how many will reopen one day when the crisis passes. Some, like Macy's, were already on the brink of bankruptcy.

Life's changing fast.

Re: Coronavirus and the election

In Hawaii, we are trying to make all elections mail-in. All Dem party members were mailed ballots which must be returned by April 4. There are fewer places to vote in person or drop off the mail-in ballot. Given the current crisis, that was a smart move.
