Re: Arpaio (et al.) criminal contempt case

I would suppose that EVERY instance of Executive Clemency is an encroachment on the judiciary. But it was part and parcel of Anglo-Saxon law (and the law of a lot of other cultures) and, frankly, I know of no specific instance of a Presidential pardon being invalidated. (I had heard of a governor's ...

Three mass shootings took place while the NRA convention was running, yet I never heard of the NRA acknowledging the tragedies.

The shooting at the San Diego synagogue is reported on page 25 of the Sunday NY Times.

I am cranked that it was considered unworthy of a front page mention.

Re: The Democrats have to impeach him....

If the Democrats want to go ahead with impeachment, in the face of a stonewalling Republican Senate, then at the very least the Democrats should amass evidence from more than just the Mueller Report. The case for impeachment should be airtight, not just flamboyant.

Re: NRA Implodes- Lawsuits and Finances, Oh My!

I am curious as to how foreign donors get any benefit from subsidizing the NRA. The NRA is certainly burning the candle at both ends and, more important, seems to have a serious internal feud going on. Considering that both sides have been indoctrinated to resort to firearms, I wouldn't be very surp...

Re: United Constitutional Patriots (UCP) Armed Border Militia Group - Larry Mitchell Hopkins / "Johnny Horton Jr." Arres

More than a distinct possibility. Hopkins seemed to have no protection or assistance from the Aryan-type prisoners, which means they essentially let him get beaten if they were not doing the beating themselves. Larry Hopkins sounds like the kind of misfit who would rather tell an awkward lie when ev...

Re: Resolution of Inquiry Re Impeachment; Commission to Declare President Incapacitated Re 25th Amendment

The House should postpone consideration of any impeachment resolution because, once the President is in jeopardy of impeachment then he has an excuse for ignoring subpoenae by Congressional committees. This is shown by the case of diplomatic officer George F. Seward in 1875, who refused to comply wi...

Georgia Engel, comedic actress with a whispery voice, at age 70.

She was a devout Christian Science adherent, which may explain the early age and the lack of info on the cause of death.

She was a joy to watch and she will be missed.

Can anyone suggest to me, preferably with a link, another similar forum where I could tease the sovtards??

What can be said about someone so crazy that he deliberately tapes himself refusing to stop for police, resisting arrest, and finally being arrested ... and then posting that tape for the world (including the court) to see? I had mentioned the Rarick case, in which the driver's smartphone was the su...

Re: Resolution of Inquiry Re Impeachment; Commission to Declare President Incapacitated Re 25th Amendment

Distinct from incapacity, grounds for impeachment: The very real prospect of Trump committing contempt of Congress over the tax returns and/or the mueller Report. In the course of the history of Congress, plenty of examples of executive branch officials threatened with citation for contempt, and pro...

Nielsen was not generally expected to be pushed out. Today's news that it would take (at least) two years to match up the detained children with their parents may have been a bridge too far for her. Almost anyone's guess who might be next but don't be surprised if some elderly rightwing judges (e.g....

Re: Joseph "Joe" Robinette Biden Jr. 2020?

Joe Biden started his political career in the Old Days, when candidates would grab hands, embrace women, kiss babies, etc. without hesitation. In his decades of office-holding and candidacy Biden must have touched, embraced, or hugged more than a million women. By my count, 0.0001% have complained, ...

Believing Trump (for the sake of argument), he learned that Special Olympics had been de-funded about a week after everyone else did. Re: Nice way to welcome the First Muslim Member of the PA House

I don't know if Sharia is a book or a way of life. Presumably the Muslim member has an equal right - and they'll probably get around to him - to present his own invocation, and include a quote from the Koran. There was a lawsuit once about these invocations in the legislature but it went nowhere bec...

Re: Mueller's investigation

OK, so Donald Trump himself did not collude with Russia. But I have this suspicion that someone else (probably more than one) in Trump's circle did have something going on with the Russians. And that's why I'd like the entire report made available. In the meantime, remember that Mueller was responsi...
