Re: Cyber Security

Apropos of nothing, my Windows 7 PC was corrupted, possibly by a virus, and I foolishly resorted to the Emergency Backup and Restart option -- and lost ALL my word processing files, including my magnum opus. Paying an IT expert to make further repairs accomplished only a slight rehab. I now have to ...

Re: What are you watching on TV these days?

I am watching MOM, with Allison Janney. A mother and her grown daughter have their social life centered on their friends from Alcoholics Anonymous. Very amusing and even therapeutic (something rare in TV). I also got myself the DVD set and binge watched all ten episodes of the short-lived LAW & ...

Re: Donald: Impeachment Watch

Ooops, my bad phrasing. The 25th Amendment says "confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress." I assume, from its previous uses in what would have been Nixon's Second Term, that means a majority of the House and a majority of the Senate, in no particular sequence. And, yes, ...

Re: Donald: Impeachment Watch

Under the 25th Amendment (1967), if the office of VP is vacant - as, for example, the VP moving up when the President is removed from office - the (new) President nominates a new VP, who must (sec. 2) be confirmed by a majority vote of BOTH Houses of Congress. Until that new VP is confirmed, I think...

Re: Donald: Impeachment Watch

I presume that, by now, Trump has had a little chat with Mike Pence about granting him a pardon. Considering that Trump might be indicted after leaving office, and be considered too serious a flight risk to be bonded out, it may be difficult for Trump to advise Pence to wait until after Election Day...

Don't be surprised if vaguely identified sources start with heavy propagandizing that Pence would be a terrible President. Republican VPs tend to serve as impeachment insurance and Pence is not an exception.

This latest tragedy in St Louis highlights some important facts:

First, this 3-year-old did not purchase the gun ... nor load it.

Second, presumably some effort could have been made to hide the gun from the kid, but a 3-year spends all his time at home, exploring lots of possible hiding places.

Somehow PCH repeatedly calculates the odds of their sweepstakes as 1 in 6 Trillion - - which, if you look it up in the World Almanac, is greater than the entire population of Planet Earth. PCH only runs its sweepstakes in the US and Canada. So it would appear that PCH has rigged it so nobody will wi...

It's true that the Republicans won in both District 3 and District 9. District 3 was a landslide but District 9 was a very thin margin - perhaps that should provide some hope for Democrats for next year. By the way, Rachel Maddow reports that the Republican National Committee is distributing to Repu...

In VA law, disability is rated by employability. A person who can handle farm work is seldom considered more than 10% disabled. Someone who can only handle sedentary work might be considered 50%. Some with additional problems such as blindness or PTSD may be disabled at a higher rating. A 100% ratin...

They fired the cop who applied the choke hold but they ignored the policewoman who sucker punched Garner in the chest in order to provoke him to take an aggressive posture. I blame that policewoman and I want her punished.
