Re: DOJ: massive college cheating scheme

The latest twist is that some colleges are talking about revoking/rescinding the diplomas issued to students whose parents gamjed the admissions process. Except, of course, this only applies to (1) the students whose names came from this one bagman (about 50 names) and not from any other, altho ther...

Re: Prominent people who are ill

I once handled the appeal for a young man convicted of armed robbery. His court appointed lawyer got the appointment simply because he was too slow escaping from the courtroom. That lawyer interviewed no witnesses, evidently didn't read the police reports (which were full of holes), only waited for ...

Re: Soto v. Bushmaster Firearms International

A victory in court for the parents, even if Bushmaster is too poor to squeeze money, will probably inspire more such lawsuits, with the firearms industry having to spend a fortune on each one. Even this very limited victory - which merely allows the suit to go to trial - may have such an effect.

Re: DOJ: massive college cheating scheme

The aggrieved, and greedy, parents who are suing probably cannot show that their little darlings would have been accepted - and that they could have paid the tuition - for a prestige college, especially if their kids, no matter how bright, had to compete with 'legacies' and with families that bribed...

Thank you Gregg.

You are right. George Orwell hit this when he cautioned (from his own melancholy experience) parents not to send their kids to schools above their financial station.

Re: DOJ: massive college cheating scheme

One of the ignored side-effects of this scandal is another slap in the face of those who went to non-prestigious universities. There are and were, of course, some minor league colleges with innovative and excellent programs but the general thought being promoted by the coverage of this scandal is: &...

Of all my emotions at this news, I am mostly angry that my parents didn't try this scheme. I went through undistinguished schools while yearning for a prestigious school with all its special benefits.

Re: The Moorish-American Consulate

There are 480 grains in a troy ounce. A troy ounce of gold is selling today at $1298.oo, meaning that each coin backed by ½ grain is worth $1.35. So the pretended math seems OK but at $1298 an ounce, I seriously doubt that "the ambassador" has acquired much precious metal. I call attention...

Re: The Moorish-American Consulate

Where is Granville? On a map, where is it? I am not entirely clear on Granville's economy; the linked document mentioned miners -- Are there men digging in the earth for precious metal for Granville, and, if so, where are they digging? I had thought that the US federal law had a great deal of contro...

Re: The Moorish-American Consulate

The original Moorish Science Temple goes back to about 1922 and shares a history with Farrakhan's Nation of Islam. After the two movements split, the Moorish Science movement spun off numerous fragments - mostly the result of individuals who each wanted to be the Big Cheese in a cult. There are now,...

Geez, and I thought it was opposition to the Free Speech movement at colleges that ignited Reagan's political career. This will work right up until The Wrong Person is scheduled as a speaker. I don't know if The Wrong Person will be David Duke or the Israeli Ambassador or Louis Farrakhan or the head...

Re: Who's going to be the NEXT one under the bus?

The repeated firings, compounded by subsequent accusations and disparaging tweets, are becoming so conspicuous that I expect that very few real professionals will seek or consent to appointments by Trump, and he'll be left with a bunch of semi-desperate semi-talented sycophants. This is starting to ...

Re: Trump - POTUS Tweets and Social Media

Trump's tendency to turn vicious on his own appointees will undoubtedly discourage people of real quality from offering their services. His use of "treasonous" to describe McCabe and Rosenstein stretches the meaning of the word .... stretches it enough that Congress can now use the same wo...

Re: Resolution of Inquiry Re Impeachment; Commission to Declare President Incapacitated Re 25th Amendment

I fully expect that, as long as the Republicans have the majority in the Senate (and this will last at least thru 2020), either impeachment or incapacity will be impossible to obtain.

Re: US v. Manafort (Guilty Plea); Kilimnik; Gates (Guilty Plea): 17-cr-201: USDC for DC; Money-Laundering, Conspiracy &

One of the wrinkles in Manafort's thinking (and the thinking of some other TrumpChumps) is that the President dare not give him a pardon, at least not until his last month in office. For Trump to hand out a pardon to even one of his henchmen would surely be seen as an impeachable offense. Not just m...

LaRouche was the purveyor of crazy conspiracy theories, mingled with assertions about history and foreign affairs (some of which might have been true, but there was no telling which). He was very keen on imagining illuminati-type conspiracies, which often included satanism, pedophilia or homosexuali...

The 25th Amendment, section 2, requires that the new President's nomination of his new VP be confirmed by both Houses. Congress would never confirm a Pence nomination of Trump to be VP, especially if the impeachment of Trump included a penalty of not holding any future federal office. I think that r...

It would appear, if the Marshals are responsible for bringing Williams to the court, that Williams is not free on bond but is being kept in jail while the case is pending. After all, he is already under a prison sentence from Florida. It would appear that, as Williams's delusion of being a hotshot l...

Someone on Fox said her claiming (years ago) to be a Native American is disqualifying dishonesty for her candidacy.

Well, it's not as if she lied about how bigly her crowds were, or that she had the best words, or that she knew better than all the generals.

Re: Elizabeth Warren 2020

Looking at Warren's application for membership in the Texas bar, I wonder why her birthdate is concealed. It's no secret. It may have been her expression of annoyance at the Texas bar asking, needlessly, about the race of its applicants. Texas had the misfortune to be on the losing end of a major ci...

Has Northam done anything 'racist' since 1984?? I'm serious. Can a man be branded - or, worse, deprived of his employment - for something foolist or thoughtless he did as a student, 35 years earlier. Doesn't a working life of proper conduct count for something? Since Northam did this, Ted Danson sho...
