Re: My own little corner.

For everything you do for me, the advice and solace, I return it to you 10 fold. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers, sending out as many positive vibes as I can muster. We love you Sugar. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I know I probably can't do much, but ...

What about one of those cool looking birdcages? Even the home stores and hobby places have some really pretty ones now (we used a bunch for Christmas decorations) and they can be cheap with coupons.
Great idea! I'll go take a look at Michael's and see what they have.

Re: Hijack this thread

April 15th was the 5th Anniversary of Jim and I meeting and talking for the first time in Second Life. In celebration he got me a Bonsai tree. It is a dwarf Hawaiian Umbrella tree ( arboricola schefflera I do believe). I did a bit of searching and this plant can be extremely poisonous to pets and ch...

Re: Roommate Issues, aka Why I Sometimes Dislike Humans

TS really sounds like a guy who has only previously lived with other guys. Maybe she has brothers. Not really. She and her daughter are part of that "cycle of poverty" that you read and hear about. And maybe have even experienced. Her, and from what she had said just about her entire family have wo...

Re: Roommate Issues, aka Why I Sometimes Dislike Humans

She definitely got a job. $12/hr at a call center, full time. Which is great. Starts May 21. On Friday, D took Tweedle Sr for her drug test for the job (pee in a cup type thing) and on the way back, took her on a tour of some of the apartment complexes in the area. Tweedle got all excited about gett...

Re: Roommate Issues, aka Why I Sometimes Dislike Humans

A small bit of good news. Tweedle Senior actually got a job. She starts in May. D and I are plotting... Erm talking about when to get her out. Until then, I am going to look for other living arrangements. It may be here in Ohio, or I may just bite the bullet and go out to the PNW. I have much to thi...

Roommate Issues, aka Why I Sometimes Dislike Humans

Here we are, 6 or so months later. I'm still in Ohio and survived the basement flood of November 2017. Lost my TV and insurance didn't cover anything because it was a flood. Oh well, dealt with it an moved on. We do have leak issues with the basement. When it warms a bit, and stops raining, we will ...

Re: Jobs

My contract ends on 9/28, so the job hunt has begun. It will be slow at first, but will pick up speed in the next few weeks.

I'm hitting a mid-career crisis. Not really sure if I want to be a tech writer anymore. But, it is all I've been doing for close to 20 years. I'm in a conundrum.

Re: Recipes!

If anyone wants any sourdough barm/starter, it can be frozen and shipped in dry ice, I'm thinking. Even easier than that, it can be dried. Drying it is also a good way to take a "break" from the care and feeding of the starter without having to start from scratch every time. https://blog.kingarthur...

Re: Recipes!

I've been seeing a lot of good about the instant pot thingy. I guess one of these days I'll have to break down and get one, dangit. On another note, I made sourdough bread yesterday. (Need to remember to feed the barm today.) It's not a "tangy" as commercial sourdoughs, but I like it just fine. As d...

Re: Crohn's and Colitis & GastroIntestinal Joys of Life - Our Very Own Thread

Roommate finally convinced me to go to the ER on Tuesday night (The nice one, not the idiot). Got there 7ish, got back there 8ish. Explained that I more than likely had a perirectal abscess, since I had a history of them and also had Diverticulosis. I had been in pain for several weeks, have had a "...

Re: Recipes!

I am going on an adventure. When I moved, I ended up "forgetting" (i.e., throwing away) my sourdough starter. I'd had it for so long, I'm not even sure if I remember where I got it from. And yes, a friend "gifted" me some starter. I just had to keep it fed with some rye flour on occasion. Made some ...

Can the questions be wide ranging? Or are they limited? Is a person that is summoned allowed to have a lawyer present? Or are they on their own?

Re: Mueller's investigation of Trump

I am going to willingly admit, right now, that I have no idea how these grand jury questioning things work. I have a vague idea: Someone is subpoenaed, they show up under penalty of severe pain, questions are asked by <who?>, Grand Jury peep have a Grand Slam or some Moons over My Hammy, and then......

I talked to Ais a few minutes ago. The simple lease she put together for Auntie F for another purpose (the Spawn's SSDI) has a end date of 2.28.18. So, technically the lease ends at the end of February. But, she was planning on giving her a 30 day written notice. She's gone through this before with ...

Some more "adventures in roommates" ranting ahead, so skip if you want. So, I've shared before that there are four of us in Ais' house: Myself, Ais, Auntie Fester, and the Spawn (Fester's adult daughter). The three of us moved in at the end of September. Well, on Saturday Ais had a talk with Auntie ...

Isn't Steele a Brit? Even if the Congress decides to spend money on an investigation of him, what exactly can they do? Other than put him on a list of those not allowed in the country?

Re: The Stupid - It Burns!

When I moved from Texas to Ohio, I was overly paranoid about the height of the truck vs. height of the bridges. If I remember correctly, the clearance was 12 ft, or somewhere thereabouts. I planned a route where no bridge was lower than 14 ft.

It was -10 this morning. Even Lola wasn't happy about going outside. She's not quite sure what to make of the snow quite yet. Supposed to be a balmy 12 degrees above today.

On the other hand, it's even colder in my home town right now.

I'm not too concerned about passing a security clearance. I've led a very boring life. No criminal history. No arrests. pay my taxes. one bankruptcy and foreclosure several years ago, but nothing that I would consider a red flag. References might be a bit more problematic. Does it have to be people ...
