Re: Hijack this thread

So, I am an idiot. I had a doctor's appointment today where my Gyn brought in someone to do an ultrasound. I totally forgot. I had put it on my calendar for Friday, for some reason. Anyway, two charges I can't really afford at the moment. *sighs* Gonna go sit in a corner and feel sorry for myself.

Re: Weather Alerts

Jez— you OK? Was sleeping when this was posted, but yes, both myself and Dawn are fine. She is a weather worrier like my mother was, so was pretty much up most of the night. Worrying. About the weather. I, apparently, was telling someone to not hit the horse in the middle of the road then something...

Re: Hijack this thread

Got a question out of curiosity. Has no effect on me, but hey, I'm curious so what the heck. Psycho roommate had a hit/skip and driving under suspension back in October, after she left here. Bench warrant when she didn't show at her arraignment, etc. So, they finally got her into court with a public...

Re: Investing 101

Thank you for the advice, Princess. That is where I was going to start: expense money in the bank. I might open a savings account at a local CU. They seem to have a slightly better return. My raise almost doubled what I was making, so I should be able to put the money aside. I am going to force Dawn...

Re: Hijack this thread

I have entirely and complete stolen a post on Facebook (with the author's permission). It's a tribute to Mother's and their Mother's and their Mother's through the branches of the family tree. While I was gathering the names it was fun to read them. Lydia, Hannah, Abigail, and of course Mary were co...

Re: Investing 101

Hey Jez, Great topic! ----snippy----- That is something i want to work on, having that security blanket. I've never had one, in truth. Maybe a couple of hundred dollars at most. But, my expense here are maybe $1000-1250 at most, and that is when I buy most of the groceries, my part of the utilities...

Re: Investing 101

Paying off debt is great, but you also have to check to see if your employer matches a portion of your 401(k) contributions. That's free money. Strive to contribute at least up to the amount that the employer matches. They match up to 6%, which is what I elected for them to take. After that, it wil...

...and lots of personal debt is held at interest rates that no investment could ever be expected to yield. Paying debt off is a really good idea. It's just not as much fun as buying assets! Strangely, the only debt I have right now is old medical bills that will be taken care of very soon. Oh, and ...

Re: Investing 101

Thank you very much everyone. I'm going to be checking out the sources recommended, and that forum, MN-Skeptic. Theoretically I have about another 17 years before I am eligible to retire, doesn't sound that long from now if you read it that way. But I also know that I'm late to the game and will pro...

Investing 101

As some of you may know, I have been recently blessed with a full time job that pays very well. As part of being more responsible adult, I have been thinking of taking some of the extra income (not a huge amount) and investing it. But, I don't know a damn thing about investing. What are some good so...

So, just heard from my boss.

They just ordered my laptop yesterday. Going to be 10 days at least until I get it. But on the bright side: I'm getting paid for doing nothing.

I have filled out all my paperwork for the hiring. Now they have to figure out how to get me somewhere where someone can peruse my identity documents for the I-9 and sign a piece of paper that says "yup, they are real". Guess I'll find out in a day or two. :) My first paycheck will be on May 17. Unt...

Re: Hijack this thread

So, the psycho room mate we had and evicted has been having further adventures with the legal system. On a whim (and driven by boredom) I checked a couple of county court sites to see if she had anything pending. I knew of one charge that she had for fleeing the scene of an accident, but also ran ac...

Re: Online Restaurant Food Delivery - DoorDash, Postmates, Uber Eats, Direct Order - How Much Do You Tip?

I drive for Door Dash. We've used DD and Grub Hub in the past. I typically tip 20%. Roommate usually about 15%. The tips and delivery charge are how we get paid (It's on 1099). I can tell you the following: Teenager ordered a smoothie from a local smoothie joint Smoothie cost is $4.99 on website. I ...

Step one of being hired at Evil Bank 2 has been completed. Today was the HR screening call. Guy sounded almost bored, but legally they have to interview two other people (three in total) before hiring me. I'm hoping things go quickly.

I officially applied for the job at Evil Bank 2. They had one out there for me, then decided that one was the wrong one, so took about a month to get another one posted out there for me to apply for. Finally got done today. So, bad news: There is no way in this universe that they will be able to get...

Re: Vaccinations & Dangers of Anti-Vaxxers

My brother and I got the chicken pox around the same time. He brought it home from school in 1st grade, I was about 3/almost 4. He had what could be called an "average" case. I had it really bad. My mother had taken pictures of me. I was one big walking pox. There were very few places on my body tha...

The burger balls turned out great! I will try to upload a pic of one of them later. It's on my phone and it's being stubborn about transferring. So here is the (sorta recipe): *Disclaimer: I rarely measure anything. The only thing I'm sure of is the number of eggs and the amount of hamburger.* Meatb...
