Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933 - 2020), and her successor

A serious question: Is there anyway the nomination of whoever could be held up somehow? I know that a quorum for a Senate vote only requires 51 Senators, so that is a wash even if all Dems and Independents abscond away somewhere. There would need to be at least 4 Reps that do the same, which we all ...

Re: Unfamiliar Battlefields, The 2020 Map

I'm still not going to hold my breath. Too many shenanigans have been going on, and will go on, for me to be comfortable with any results until all votes are counted, certified, and the lawsuits are over.

Ok. That was fun. :) Might just have to do that again. Maybe I'll dust off the laptop and actually get the camera running.

Re: Jobs

As usual, there are rumors of rumors of impending doom here in the fun land of worker bees. The place I work for (large bank) is prepping for layoffs. That we knew. September is the time of year for layoffs, etc. Try and get them done prior to Christmas/New Years. Anyway... Previously, I would liste...

Re: New Diseases - Coronavirus

I'm having a surgical procedure on Tuesday (yes, another abscess in an unfortunate place) so prior to the surgery (yesterday), I had to get a COVID test done. It was done as a "self serve/drive through" tents outside of the hospital with them handing me stuff through a barely cracked window. Managed...

On Friday, February 29, 2008, at 7:02 AM (according to the time stamp anyway) someone wrote on a comment on the Volokh Conspiracy blog that was originally hosted at Volokh(dot)com. The discussion was about Natural Born Citizen in general and specifically about McCain being born in the Panama Canal Z...

Speaking of CC fraud... For the second month in a row wish(dot)com has charged my checking account for something. What, I don't know because I have never bought anything from them, nor have I ever had an account with their app or website. Last month, I called the bank and cancelled my debit card the...

For those that have been wondering, yes, I'm still alive. Just been working, playing way too much Elder Scrolls Online, and just being me. I still read here, of course, trying to keep up with what is going on. Trying not to give into the despair that the Great Orange One tends to inspire in me.

Many of the TSA at airports are facing a 30% paycut by September. They are getting rid of retention bonuses, shift differentials, and a few other things. They barely make a livable wage as it is.

Re: On a Personal Level--Coronavirus COVID-19 Cancellations, etc.

Just found out that a friend of mine was exposed to the virus thanks to a co-worker that couldn't be bothered to practice social distancing. He continued to visit friends and family and go out on the town until they shut everything down. The co-worker tested positive this morning. J was informed thi...

:bighug: :bighug: I know the "guilt" about feeling relief. My mother passed away in 2014 after many years battling MS. The last few years she lost the ability to walk, talk, or care for herself in the most simple ways. The last few times I was able to see her, I could see the pain in her eyes and in...

Re: Is Anyone Just Tired?

Tired is a good way to put it. But then again, I've been tired for 30+ years. Things haven't changed much for me in the last few months. I work from home anyway, so that hasn't changed. What did change is my roommate started working from home. And probably will until at least the end of the month. H...

Finally heard from the SO last night. (Quick background: He lives in Seattle and works at SEA-TAC.) He's sick. Hoping it's just a cold. Snot production off the charts (his words). Coughing. Slight fever. I told him to get his ass to a hospital. He said he's fine and it sounds worse than it is. :bore...

Re: On a Personal Level--Coronavirus COVID-19 Cancellations, etc.

Just got back from the dentist (had my permanent bridge installed). He is gowned, gloved, masked, double hair net, and shoe booties. They are only seeing one person at a time. If you have an appointment (which unless it's an emergency or something like what I had, you are SOL), you call when you get...

Re: What are you doing to stay sane on your Staycation?

I should have mentioned: I am kinda introverted, though I do like getting out once in awhile for human contact. Mostly complete strangers in stores I will never see/have to talk to again. And my room mate is also working from home so I do not have my normal daily solitude. I think that is what is sl...

Re: What are you doing to stay sane on your Staycation?

Living my life in its normal fashion. I work from home and rarely go out. The messed up knee put a kibosh to my exercise classes a couple of weeks ago (strained ligament, bone spur on knee cap, arthritis) so, really, nothing has changed.

I'm going insane, in other words.
