Re: Plane Crash - Jet Crash

I never fully appreciated layers until I started spending a lot of time in the UK, where the temperature can sometimes change by 10 degrees during the course of the day. Inside.

Schiff's too smart to run for President. Unfortunately.
Too bad, because I'd support him.

Ah, yes. The suit against Google. Which now has a First Amended Complaint that seems to have dropped, as far as I can tell, all the causes of action. It's now a claim for declaratory and injunctive relief under the 1st and 14th Amendments (the 14th because it incorporates the 1st as to search engine...

Here's the complaint. I don't think it's serious litigation, or that it will go anywhere.

Re: Nunes v Twitter

I'm presuming, based on the assumption that the lawyers filing the motion are competent, that the 8th Circuit has yet to weigh in on whether anti-SLAPP motions are permissible in federal court. The 9th Circuit (which I think has it right) has held that they are, but there's definitely a circuit spli...

The military is a bit more conservative than the US as a whole - but only a bit. And it tends to be conservative in the traditionalist sense more than the radical one. So I'm not really shocked by those results.

Re: Stephanie Clifford aka Stormy Daniels v Donald J. Trump aka David Dennison, U.S. District Court, Central California

Picked up a bit of familiarity with the Texas anti-SLAPP statute over the summer. I don't know if this is enough to explain Harder's choice, but the Texas statute (at the time of Clifford's suit) doesn't just bring a fees award, it also includes mandatory sanctions. And, of course, the Texas choice ...

Yeah, it's old news. But the President's conduct throughout the Eddie Galagher thing has definitely not marked a high point in military-civilian relations. It's sometimes good for the military to be reminded that they're not in charge - but not so much when the reminders are coming in the form of a...

Re: UK - United Kingdom - England, Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland

I think Suranis' point is pretty much on the money. Corbyn's prevarication over Brexit is hurting Labour - they're losing votes to Lib Dems, who have staked out a firm remain position. The problem is that they're not losing enough votes to swing seats to Lib Dem, they're losing enough to swing those...

Is there a standard of evidence? Because the R talking point is that you need high definition video and audio of the President offering to release the aid in exchange for the investigation.
Conveniently for everyone, the standard is whatever each individual Senator decides it is.

Erm . . . that map doesn't show how many seats for Alaska and Hawaii.
It does show them. look under California and the the left of Texas.
It shows them as not changing but doesn't show how many seats they have, unlike the other states that have numbers.
1 for AK; 2 for HI.

Same. I was fairly sure that Roberts doesn't want firearms cases in front of the court - there's enough of a trail of cert denieds since Heller to make that clear - but I'm kind of surprised that he managed to keep at least one of the other four in that camp. I thought Kennedy was the one voting wit...

With apologies to my British friends -

There's clearly no withdrawal plan available that everyone can agree to. At some point someone is seriously going to have to make a decision. This can't go on forever like this.
