Re: The Copyright Stuff

Sorry for the delay - been arguing about law with anime fans on Twitter for a couple of days. The issues here are mostly trademark, and heavily caught up in the whole "right to repair" movement. Trademarks are supposed to indicate the source of the goods, and associate those goods with the goodwill ...

My recollection (not 100% sure from where) is that renting the entire floor (& sometimes also floor below and above) is standard Secret Service procedure for Presidential trips.

Re: LIBERI, et al. v TAITZ, et al. (C.D. CA)

The lawyer thing isn't going to happen. The volume of utterly batshit buffoonery that the parties have been engaging in for the last decade guarantees that. Here's (part of) why: Assume, for the sake of argument, that a lawyer can be found who is reasonably competent yet does not kick the prospectiv...

Also I could never get a read on if there were unwritten rules about forming lanes on the sidewalks. I would assume they walk on the left side, but they don't really seem to care, and are often in the way of someone else. I still don't know the answer to that one. I do know that a London cop tried ...

I haven't been to the UK in a decade, but there is more insight on the TV beyond cable news/ CNN there. My biggest issue with the UK -- they drive on the wrong side of the road. As a pedestrian, I almost got hit by a bus in Leicester because I looked to my left, not right. I don't have too much tro...

There was like a 30 second news clip about the tariffs this morning on the train in London. It showed a clip of a wall that extended into the ocean with people wading around it. People on the train were laughing and saying, "build the wall"

Re: Trump's Trade Follicy

The House should vote - repeatedly - on measures restricting/removing Trump's ability to impose tariffs. And the messaging in 2020 should include "Trump has put tax after tax on the things you buy, and Senator/Representative XXX is letting him do it."

And just exactly what do we need to do in order to return the tax authority to The House?
Convince conservative Republicans that allowing the executive to unilaterally inflict massive tax increases on Americans without Congressional approval is bad.

Have you ever considered the possibility that I really am as smart as I think I am? Or that you might be wrong in this case? Bad guy or 1st Amendment? Hard to say without really looking at the full opinion (which I lack both the time and inclination to do right now; we're in the middle of moving house at the moment), but I suspect it's a mix - but one tilted more toward the "bad guy" side. I'm no fan of Assange. But some of those charges do seem a bit concerning. Ability to try and convict, overreach, First Amendment? First Amendment. While I personally don't think Assange is a journalist, I think society is better off with a definition of journalist that is very broad, particularly ...
