Re: LEAVE Brexit Vote: Leave EU Thu 23 June - Market and US Election Impact

Uncodified Constitutions are certainly different from more formalized ones such as the US - I'd be the last person to claim otherwise. But I think the situation is a bit more complex than what Suranis has described. Constitutional requirements, because they come from legal sources, do have a bit mor...

*shrug*

The UK constitution's status isn't substantially different than any other area of common law.

The UK has an unwritten constitution and a large body of constitutional law.

I take pride in being anti-conspiracy theory. I do my best to attribute things to stupidity and incompetence rather than malice. But even I'm looking at this one and going, "I don't know, something seems strange." Dude's in the special housing unit. He tried to commit suicide two weeks ago. And it s...

Re: Trump v CA over Requirement to Release Tax Returns

I haven't read the complaint either - but as far as I can tell the only thing that distinguishes this law from the term limits one that the Supreme Court struck down is that this affects ballot access for the primary instead of the general. I doubt that will be enough to save the law, but it at leas...

Realistically, don't know that even a general election is going to solve anything. Think the most likely outcome would be several failed attempts to build a coalition.

Re: A$AP ROCKY'S SWEDISH TRIAL

CNN is claiming he can leave the country while the verdict is decided. That is weird. Seems reasonable to me. Any pretrial time would be credited against a sentence - and might cover all of it. And if he doesn't return for a sentence, he's essentially banned from going back to Europe. And will have...

George Conway is a massive hypocrite, and calling him out is good.

I just don't see his Tweets that much right now because my Twitter mentions are an absurd dumpster fire on account of this anime defamation LOLsuit I've been following.

Just catching up on this thread - Street photography rules and privacy expectations are very jurisdiction-specific. What...

Earlier in the week, several Congress members — Democratic representatives Adriano Espaillat and Hakeem Jeffries from New York, André Carson from Indiana, and Joaquin Castro from Texas — held a press conference demanding Rocky’s and his two associates’ r...

Re: Republicans have Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Derangement Syndrome.

It's complicated. Right of publicity is a state-law thing, not federal. And the politician angle complicates things further, as does the fact that it's a likeness, not something being used for sponsorship. Also, there are probably PR downsides to suing and so on. So there's maybe some risk for the c...

Rub in the salt and ask him. Be cruel. He may deserve it. That's kind of fucked up. Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius. A classical reference to one of the less civilized periods in the European history doesn't make the idea less fucked up now. If anything, it makes it worse - one would ...

Just a personal note. Hubs inherited some farm land which he leases out. His current tenant has been very reliable but his annual lease payment is late. I think an incremental approach isn't necessarily a bad thing, particularly if the public option is reasonably priced.

I also think that Joe Biden is probably the best candidate to beat Trump. Unfortunately, Joe Biden is also probably the best candidate to beat Joe Biden.
