Re: What are you watching on TV these days?

Hulu. It started as YouTube shorts, got picked up by a Canadian streaming company, and is now a Hulu original. About 40 episodes so far.

It's a Canadian comedy. They do a great job tempering cringeworthy things with empathy. And manage to somehow do smart, even intellectual, comedy with fart jokes.

Re: Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi

I'm a big believer in pragmatism. I'm a big believer in picking your fights. But I don't think we worked our asses off to take back the House in order to be slightly less culpable than the Republicans when it comes to hurting this country and the people in it. It's get real or go home time, Ms. Pelo...

You don't get to be a flag officer in the US military without learning how to *thoroughly* cover your ass. Information on potential US and Iranian casualties, including possibilities for civilian casualties, would have been in the packet. Probably with "best case," "likely," and "worst case" ranges.

I suspect that "although the State Bar may be able to prove some level of minor misconduct..." isn't the kind of line that signals a strong case.

Agreed, Suranis. I've missed you, sweetie. :bighug: Thanks. Nice to see someone actually noticed my absence. :lovestruck: :bighug: I definitely noticed. But I also remembered you saying something about trying to take some time away, so I wanted to respect that and not bug you. Glad to see you back.

Unelss a lawyer has been appointed by the Court, which comes with additional duties, no attorney is required to continue to represent a client if s/he does not want to do so any more. I acknowledge that even the most despicable in our society are entitled to competent legal representation, but I de...

Because it's 'political speech'? Claiming "political speech" is not a get-out-jail-free card. The politicalness of the speech may certainly be a factor in determining fair use, but it is not the only or overriding one. Coming in late - As of right now, the politicalness of speech is insufficiently ...

Re: Vatican and Celibacy

tl:dr - much of the discussion of historical celibacy strikes me as perhaps a bit simplistic. My recollection is that the rule regarding celibacy was reasonably well established by about the 5th or 6th Century, so the extent to which it was about accumulation of wealth or power might is somewhat deb...

If anyone is considering a betting pool, I'll be very charitable toward Small's run. If he makes it onto the primary ballot, I'll take 3.6%.

I'm actually leaning toward (1). I think he's too arrogant to realize that it really can - and is - happening to him until it's too late. Too, also, I think there's a non-negligible chance that he does something stupid and winds up in pretrial custody.

Sorry for the delay - been arguing about law with anime fans on Twitter for a couple of days. The issues here are mostly trademark, and heavily caught up in the whole "right to repair" movement. Trademarks are supposed to indicate the source of the goods, and associate those goods with the goodwill ...

The lawyer thing isn't going to happen. The volume of utterly batshit buffoonery that the parties have been engaging in for the last decade guarantees that. Here's (part of) why: Assume, for the sake of argument, that a lawyer can be found who is reasonably competent yet does not kick the prospectiv...

Also I could never get a read on if there were unwritten rules about forming lanes on the sidewalks. I would assume they walk on the left side, but they don't really seem to care, and are often in the way of someone else. I still don't know the answer to that one. I do know that a London cop tried ...

I haven't been to the UK in a decade, but there is more insight on the TV beyond cable news/ CNN there. My biggest issue with the UK -- they drive on the wrong side of the road. As a pedestrian, I almost got hit by a bus in Leicester because I looked to my left, not right. I don't have too much tro...
