Re: LEAVE Brexit Vote: Leave EU Thu 23 June - Market and US Election Impact

They are right to do so. Until the delay bill passes and the extension is granted, there is no incentive to dissolve the House, or Johnson could simply ignore the law, set the election to a date beyond the 31st (his promise to set it for the 15th of October isn’t worth the paper it isn’t printed on)...

Re: Kamala Harris 2020

A number of friends up here in New Hampshire who were Harris supporters have sworn off her after the recent “Tell the public I’m in favor of (social programs), then tell wealthy donors in private not to worry because I won’t let those programs actually happen” event that came up last weekend and has...

Re: LEAVE Brexit Vote: Leave EU Thu 23 June - Market and US Election Impact

One of the things I struggle with is people at one moment in time, people who don't understand implications, making a decision with such far-reaching and unpredictable effects. It seems wrong. More than that, it incenses me that a side in said referendum and blatantly lie, cheat, and say whatever t...

Re: LEAVE Brexit Vote: Leave EU Thu 23 June - Market and US Election Impact

Suranis has it right. Much of what the UK relies on to make its government work aren’t necessarily codified but are simply traditions and/or conventions that don’t have to be heeded at all if someone decides they don’t want to heed them anymore. It’s just that it hasn’t happened. Furthermore, since ...

slightly off-top but... Documents indicate that the National Rifle Association planned to purchase a luxury mansion in the Dallas area last year for the use of chief executive Wayne LaPierre, according to two people familiar with the records. last night we watched an episode of Wings which, ( :sick...

Re: NRA Implodes- Lawsuits and Finances, Oh My!

The more of these things that come out the more and more I am amazed at how well they managed to turn the NRA into a “standard/typical” right-wing grifting organization. Nearly everybody was in on it, funneling a large percentage of the money right into their own coffers. And the major reason it see...

Re: Racism in America Becoming Fashionable Again

I’d ask some locals, but I’m in Maine, in the most diverse city in the least diverse state in the US. Our black population is primarily recent immigrants. Hey, as a New Hampshireite who often gets made fun of because of our lack of diversity, I can always point to Vermont, which is less diverse tha...

Re: Racism in America Becoming Fashionable Again

The building I lived in in DC had a ballroom that was often rented out by various groups. One time, the Log Cabin Republicans were there and I spoke to one of them in the hallway as I was going to my home. The impression I got was that they absolutely acknowledged that should the party they were sup...

Re: The Moochers of Middle America

This is not uncommon. Back during Scott Walker’s runs for governor of Wisconsin, or Rainer in Illinois, there were lots of articles interviewing rural voters who were upset at the “city folk” sucking up more than their fair share. The reality of the situation was much the opposite - it was the citie...

Peter Popoff Ministries. I saw one of his commercials on the TV this morning. He was selling a tube of magic holy water. One testimonial had a woman stating that she came into $17,000 after buying a tube of that stuff. Another also claimed to have received big money. IMO this clearly crosses the li...

Re: Con artists and scams

A friend of my daughter, long time in Florida now, got wrapped up in Amway when she first moved down there. It's a cult, and she's in it. And she's such an intelligent, warm person. Reminds me of a person I used to know, highly intelligent, warm and unflappable; a very respectable, salt of the eart...

Re: DOJ: massive college cheating scheme

I still view this case as largely window-dressing. The same DOJ that couldn't be bothered to prosecute anyone for literally cratering the global economy twelve years ago suddenly wants the little people to think they're interested in holding the wealthy and powerful to account? Please. The biggest ...

Re: DOJ: massive college cheating scheme

In one of the documents I read, one of the celebrities was saying to the scammer “Why don’t we just give directly to the university?” and he replied “Oh no, it’ll take a way bigger donation than what I’m asking for.” So they gave the guy $500K. He spent $50K in doctoring the exam scores, about $50K ...

I see instead of a guy wearing a single AirPod for security, they went with ADT today. I love that their “accuser” has already come out and said he was tricked and it never happened (sounds familiar), yet they still maintained to this day that said accuser was going to show up. I wonder if they’ll s...

Why would anyone except Brietbart send anyone? The guy is on the record as saying his stories aren't true, but that he does them just for the exposure. This. Re: Our Big Gay Gossip, Hottie Alert and News/Opinion Lounge (All Are Welcome)

Foggy, I grew up incredibly sheltered despite my lefty tendencies, and I didn’t even know what a gay person was until my senior year of high school. Even then it never crossed my mind that I was one, even though in hindsight of course I was. My senior year of college I was the head of the committee ...

Fun!!!!!! I am too insecure about my voice to handle solo karaoke. (When you grow up with a colatura soprano mother "helping" you sing, it's just easier to play the piano.). Hubby has a nice midrange baritone and loves to sing. He dreamed of being a Pip with Gladys Knight. A lot of people would say...

Re: Our Big Gay Gossip, Hottie Alert and News/Opinion Lounge (All Are Welcome)

I’m a singing bass in and Secretary of the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Gay Men’s Chorus. It’s amazing to see the growth in the organization in just the last few years for which I’ve been a member. The organization recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. When founded, it was the vague n...

Re: NRA Implodes- Lawsuits and Finances, Oh My!

What a shock - as the organization transformed to be nothing more than a mouthpiece for right-wing claptrap, it became nothing more than the standard right-wing grift enterprise funneling assets right to those at the top, their families, and their wholly owned subsidiaries. I’m shocked! Shocked! Wel...

Re: Jacob Wohl

Having missed when this conversation was in full force, I’m laughing my ass off.

I have a friend who’d definitely fit in the “daddy” column. He’s mid-40s. The number of early 20s guys he manages to take home is staggering. There’s a lot of thinks out there that want that for a night.
