Re: Malaria Drugs, Antibiotics and Other COVID19 "Treatments"

Valid points. And, agreed on all of them. The Frontline observations are essential here. EMRAPS tend to be long, and this one is as well, but hearing from the Frontline providers is yet another perspective. Since it is long, it may be good for headphones and leaf raking. This one touches on some of ...

Re: Malaria Drugs, Antibiotics and Other COVID19 "Treatments"

Just to point out that: 1.) Since this is a new disease (150 days) there isn't an FDA approved drug that has gone through randomized, stratified, double-blind studies. Not one. 2.) There won't be one that has gone through that process for a couple of years. One option is for a good patient (in ICU w...

What's the matter? I'm not "Trump bashing" enough? Thalidomide has been used for many inflammation issues... currently for leprosy, etc. Actually, it started as a sedative. It was then also used for morning sickness. The means of action is one that is of great interest in chronic pain like fibromyal...

Re: New Diseases - Coronavirus

Gotcha... it certainly is out of place for Covid-45 to comment on suggested treatment--as is the case in all this, time will tell. That said, the NIH (HHS) has their protocol which has many pluses and only a few negatives. The current methodology, IIRC, was put in place b/c of Thalidimide. It was wi...

Re: New Diseases - Coronavirus

That is an interesting finding in the mouse study. I'll give it a serious look later today. There is reason to be hesitant on gripping too hard on that study... First, Metformin is highly prescribed and the adverse events noted (death) would have likely been presenting with the moderate sized popula...

Re: Corona Virus Whackadoodles, Whackjobs and Conspiracy Theories (other than from the White House)

To be fair, your skin is a barrier, but it too can be infected since it's alive. Plenty of examples of this from HPV (warts, genital warts, etc) to various other Herpes types. Viruses are much smaller than bacteria. Anyway, this virus uses the ACE2 RECEPTOR for access which is expressed mainly in th...

Yep. I've read some fascinating Spanish Flu pandemic reports. The story of the journey to acquire its sequenced genome is a good place to start. IIRC, there were many links to raw data on the sight that hosted that story. Have you seen this? https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/1918-pandemic-h...

Sloppy assumptions. Sloppy math. Self-disproving arguments.
How this got past an editor and fact-checker is huge question.

Re: President* Trump - *Impeached

Yes. Way too soon for safety-- controlling transmission, getting data, and any clinical treatment results would point more towards 6-8 more weeks of lockdown. And any easing after that can't be envisioned without that data. We missed the opportunity to contain this and now can only hope to reduce th...

Here's a great summary site. Go-to "Summary" Select US. There are Tabs for Demographics (running off too little data, but perhaps generally correct) , Fatality rate (straight Numerator and Denominator ratio, wherein both numbers are questionable--especially the denominator), and Fatalities. There's ...

South Korea did even more than testing. They used mobile technology in the form of apps on smart phones to not only communicate, but track the location and movement of people that tested positive and provide guidance based on that. Halting the testing for the presence of Covid-19 was halted because ...

ARDS is the primary cause of ICU death in influenza virus infections. Here's a good article touching on what that means in a pandemic (treatments of the host response independent of cause) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4457136/ It's a preliminary study in mice, but you can follow the ...

This is a time we wish we had more of the next-gen ventilators.
Current ones basically act in place of the diaphram-- move air.

The next-gen improvement is to do the role of the lungs, oxygenate the blood.
Glad you weren't in too much pain.

FRP, agreed. All valid points that I strongly agree with. But, not now. We need numbers. The testing being done will give insights. There are numbers from treatments coming back in Italy and Korea. Sadly, although it is the correct action, it has costs. However. FFS, flattening the curve isnt two we...
