Re: The Ahmaud Arbery case

I’m not certain we deserve to survive as a country. :snippity: I’m angry, sick, tired, worn out — and I’m a middle-aged white woman. I can’t fathom the depths of emotion blacks must feel EVERY DAY. I can't either. I've lived in Indonesian, experienced some hatred in Australia, and am in the minorit...

Many homes in Central and South America have outdoor sinks to which we attach hoses for the washer. It is more common than the indoor hookups we are accustomed to in the US and Europe. Some are on covered porches or carports. And most rural home do not have traditional electric hot water heaters but...

Lauren Fox @FoxReports Sen. Susan Collins with a strong rebuke of Trump’s actions last night. “ It was painful to watch peaceful protestors be subjected to tear gas in order for the President to go across the street to a church I believe he’s attended only once.” 11:33 AM · Jun 2, 2020 Fuck Susan C...

MY great-grandmother had an old cast iron treadle machine that i hated because I sewed my finger once. Mom had an Elna with knee controls;I learned to sew on that. My current machine is a 40 year old Singer 7105, from an AmEx premium catalog, very basic. I’m ready to treat myself. I want to shop lo...

From the NYT: The Defense Department ordered the Army to prepare active-duty military police units to deploy to Minneapolis as protests over the death of George Floyd engulfed the city for a fourth night on Friday, with businesses set on fire and gunshots fired near a police precinct. Officials said...

Anybody watch Texas Rising? It's a dramatization based on a novel and I don't know how historically accurate, but I was thinking about it as a change of pace. Opinions?

I don't know if you're using the phrase "threw a lit match on gasoline" figuratively or literally. But as far as I know, this man did not start the fire. He only broke the windows. Others started the fire after the fact. At least, the videos I've seen of him show him leaving after breaking the wind...

Who here is a person of color? Or has a loved one or family member who is? My son is resigned.

Re: Cops Behaving Badly

In any case, I don't really understand the obsession with identifying this guy. It's not as if he is responsible for all of the destruction. Maybe he was an early instigator, but many others gleefully participated... That is true. But he threw a lit match on gasoline, essentially. And while the vid...

I was going to start a new thread but forgot how. I just want someone to be kind. To understand the generational angst and poverty, the systematic racism, the hurt of sexual and physical abuse. The white privilege plague. The classism hurt and hurdles. I didn't walk in your shoes and you didn't walk...
