Re: Bundy related gossip and discussion

If I recall my early American history, the debate over the primacy of the covenant of grace versus the covenant of works is what led a bunch of folks to be booted out of the colony of Massachusetts and led to the formation of the colony of Rhode Island.

Re: Air Force One

The current pair of 747's that serve as AF1 were delivered to the USAF in 1990. The paint scheme was designed by Raymond Lowey, the famous industrial designer. I believe it was first applied to the 707 AF1 that Kennedy used. But, it was not Jackie Kennedy who came up with the colors. Trump has clai...

I'm non-military all the way, but I find this part particularly troublesome Additional teams in the Combat Information Center (CIC), an area on where tactical information is fused to provide maximum situational awareness, also failed to provide the Officer of the Deck input and information. Re: U.S. Navy destroyer collides with merchant vessel off Japan

The Fitzgerald case is getting more attention than you'd think here in Wisconsin, because Cmdr. Benson happens to be from here. He even went to college at Marquette University, my law school alma mater. Given the circumstances, I can't fault the Navy prosecutors for concluding the special courts ma...

Re: U.S. Navy destroyer collides with merchant vessel off Japan

Do military officers contribute to their retirement? A percentage of monthly salary is conventional in union jobs. If so, taking their retirement away is a form of theft. It is like raiding someone’s savings account. Probably not these officers. There have been some changes to the military retireme...

Thanks Maybenaut: it's good to have the significance of requesting a general court martial pointed out. I'm no military person, but I would expect the hierarchy to be thinking "whatever went wrong, these officers were in charge of it, and we have plenty more officers, most of whom haven't so royall...

Re: U.S. Navy destroyer collides with merchant vessel off Japan

I was thinking about this case and the USS McCain case today, and was curious about the status. Looks like two officers -- the CO and the Tactical Action Officer -- will face charges at a general court-martial. WASHINGTON — The Navy will pursue courts-martial for two officers from the USS Fitzgerald...

I doubt the judge would be motivated to force a trial. But when you come into her* courtroom whining about the conditions of confinement when she knows damn well that you have it better than every other pretrial detainee in the federal system, then she might motivated to act. *I think it was a her. ...

Re: What are you reading lately?

Now... you know.. I've never actually read Harry Potter. Seems like a good time for something light in another direction. J.K. Rowling is an excellent writer, and I highly recommend all 6 Harry Potter novels. But I wouldn't exactly call them "light," at least not in the sense of being humorous or l...

We have previously discussed how undisciplined Manafort was, with his subornation conduct leading to his jailing. We now also see he is equally undisciplined in jail. His telephone conversations to non-lawyers are recorded and will be used against him (and just have been). How dumb do you have to b...

I suggest anyone with an interest in the Manafort saga read the entire filing by the government. Manafort has perks in his present jail not available to most inmates. He also is blabbing on the phone to people other than his attorneys. :brickwallsmall: The government is using those monitored phone ...
