Re: State of the Union: Feb 5 2019
Why February 5? What is her strategy? Somewhere between bridge mending and getting it out of the way. That was my guess too. Pelosi has won the first fight and it's best to bank that and mkve on. Arranging the SotU speech now has taken away Trump's option to whine that those nasty Democrats – loser...

Re: House Oversight - Feb 7 2019 -POSTPONED: Michael Cohen Public Testimony
Cohen is alleging Trump and Giuliani have made ongoing threats against his family members. If you're Trump and Guliani, and you know Cohen is cooperating with the SCO and SDNY attorneys, wouldn't there be a concern that phone calls or other communications to Cohen (and possibly with their consent, h...

Re: State of the Union: 2019
This is the Nancy Pelosi that's been ready and able for decades. Pelosi's image has suffered in past years due to incessant right-wing demonizing. People are now getting to see her in action (many of whom didn't pay much attention to the workings of the House in past years). She got a lot of favora...

Re: Back To Politics In January 2019 With Speaker Pelosi & a Democratic House!
Well, we're gonna see setbacks and progress this year. Which is better than just setbacks like we've had for the past two years. But there will still be setbacks, so we'll have to be ready for them. One concern is that the Dems develop a faction like the Tea party/FreedomCaucus wing of the R's -- a...

Re: Mueller's investigation
Anybody else get the impression that SC Mueller and/or DAG Rosenstein gave the young Mr. Whittaker a lesson (warning?) about obstruction of justice? For an 'acting' AG, he sure seems impotent and irrelevant. That's been one of my theories. (The other being Whittaker would take care to protect his l...

Trump needs someone who is tough, who dislikes the Justice Department, and who is strict on immigration and border security: Joe Arpaio.

(I was not sure where to post this. It fits the nutty conspiracist theme, so here I go). A comment posted on Facebook by someone I only tangentially know led me to peruse the page of a "Jack Marino" (who appears to be followed by some Qanon types). He posted this article, which led with &q...

Re: Mueller's investigation
I had an optimistic thought strike me today. I don't have those very often, and I don't think it's at all likely, but hear me out: Suppose Whitaker really did come in as Trump's guy in the DOJ, ready to defend his boss to the hilt. He's still a lawyer who has been a prosecutor before - albeit a shi...

Trump is being mercilessly trolled and savaged on social media over his skipping out of the memorial visit. And I haven't seen the MAGAts this quiet since Cesar Sayoc.

I went to bed when Walker was slightly ahead and Brown County looked to have a number of votes likely to go his way, but as talk of thousands uncounted in Milwaukee County arose. This was pleasant wake up news. The Unholy Trinity from my childhood state of Walker, Ryan and Priebus is at last history.

If illegal immigrants are not subject to the jurisdiction of the US, that means that they can't be prosecuted for crimes, even the crime of entering the country illegally. According to this twisted logic, only US citizens could be prosecuted for entering the country illegally. Very true. The anti-b...

Yeah, I doubt he is actually planning anything or actually intends to try to sign anything, I doubt there is even a 'they' telling him he can do this. But it puts the progressive back on the reactive and shifts the story to something that might benefit republicans at the polls. I think there's an E...

Trump's staff actually got him to use the words "terroristic acts" in his remarks a moment ago. Though he then sounded like he knew nothing about the person. I suspect a tweet rollback later.
