Re: Shutdown 2018

My own view is that the Democrats should walk this one to the ledge, but take the deal at the last minute. DACA doesn't expire until March, and the current proposal sets up another CR fight in February. Take CHIP now; get DACA in February. The only downside will be in calming down everyone on the l...

As I predicted, just the threat of the nuclear option made Dems agree on the wall, more to come People reading this web site know that I advocated the nuclear option for a long time. :snippity: Just a reminder: 1 week of the government shut down is estimated to cost 6 billion. So, 3 weeks of shutdo...

The thing is, it doesn't matter. There could be video of Trump screwing his daughter and that wouldn't matter either. His 37% will never leave him, and it seems that every new story just makes their love for him stronger.
I disagree. He might lose Jared Kushner's vote.

Trump’s driving license, issued in May 2012, stated his height as 6ft 2in. Yet according to the report issued by the White House physician on Tuesday, Trump is 6ft 3in.
And everyone here thought that OSG didn't grow while in office. Silly us!

Like Jez, I have a question about grand juries. Is someone able to invoke the Fifth? If so, is there any way to force an answer? Also, if someone (say Bannon) pulls a Sessions and simply doesn't recall, is that the end of it? I guess the bottom line for me is why would anyone in that situation bothe...

Sugar, are any days built into the school calendar that are comparable to the northern 'snow days'? When I taught in MA we had five snow days as backups if needed. One year schools were closed so much we taught until June 30th to get to the 180 days requirement, going over a week beyond even the ext...

I'm not quite sure how to phrase this question, Fiona, but there's speculation and some evidence that he's scared of walking down steps. Could that indicate anything medically (eg can that also be a sign or symptom of TIAs) or is that a more common run-of-the-mill symptom of someone who is aging an...

WTF? I'm not Jewish but I uses to go to Hillel every Friday for shabbat services. I can attest that the only thing that was killed there were the other students, by me, as I fought for the challah. Seriously, that bread was worth killing for. I almost converted for it. I still have dreams about it....

I like the rule of half my age plus 7 as a lower bound. I never really thought about an upper bound, so I guess I don't have one. That might work until you are somewhere in your lower 40s, but the gap widens considerably after that. Why would a 45 year-old with twenty more years of work in front of...

Anyone got any ideas about what childish, idiotic remarks 45 will make when he performs the annual pardoning of the turkey (assuming he actually does it)? My mind isn't able to imagine stupidity at his level.

We've probably all been to funerals where the attendees laughed at a humorous anecdote told during a eulogy. I was at a funeral today where most of the mourners (and especially the immediate family) had to stifle laughter during a very solemn moment. It was a military funeral for a staunch, lifelong...

I'm not a Twitter user, but is it common to use capital letters unnecessarily as often as DOTUS does? The only other person I'm aware of who does this with such frequency is Cody Robert Judy and I certainly don't consider him a paragon of appropriateness.

Small correction, the story is that he paid them to pee on the bed where Obama slept. The dossier doesn't say they peed on him, and most everyone agrees Trump is such a germaphobe he wouldn't want them to pee on him. But yes, you are right, there are plenty of people who would be willing to urinate...
