Re: My own little corner.

My husband has hemochromatosis. In theory, it was caught early before it did much damage. He does the regular phlebotomies: about once every two months. From what I remember of the research that I did when he was first diagnosed, joint pains can be one symptom of iron overload. Much sympathy. It suc...

Re: The Stupid - It Burns!

I know why. Because when you’re on it it makes you feel like a god. That you can do anything— like build a whole house by yourself in a few hours, or write a 1000-page novel before dawn. Sounds a little like a manic phase. Years ago a friend was diagnosed with bi-polar disease in his early twenties...

Re: LEAVE Brexit Vote: Leave EU Thu 23 June - Market and US Election Impact

I guess this can go here. The Guardian : Empire strikes back: why former colonies don't need Britain after Brexit British politics and culture feel nostalgic about the Commonwealth and hope to rekindle the old relationship. But the reality is not so simple I read this and the comments. I expected a...

I'm guessing the nice lady was having similar thoughts to the person saying "Nice doggy" and backing slowly away from the Rottweiler while not making eye contact.

I wondered what happened with the "sympathetic" alt juror who switched at the last minute. If female, perhaps she is one of those excessively socialized women who automatically smile anyone who makes eye contact and hence they thought she was sympathetic. (I also tend to smile automatically.)

Re: Another Shooting

This is, once again, overly simplistic. Everyone is, once again, overlooking the single biggest common denominator in these shootings: it's overwhelmingly male perps. The problem with trying to find [bold]any[/bold] single common denominator is that given the rarity of events any factor's true posi...

*nod* Sessions has his own agenda, and it is not an agenda that needs Trump as a long term component. He might even be positioning himself for his own run at PotUS ... He may well come out of this looking like some kind of hero, but I can't imagine he'd have much success with that. Right-wing media...

Montgomery County, Maryland. Near DC.
I used to live in Montgomery County. It's a largely affluent, bedroom community for the District of Columbia.

Re: All Dogz Worthy

My Miniature Schnauzer was prescribed phenobarbitol for cluster seizures for several years. Rion doesn't have gentle, stare-into-space seizures, but violent, fling-the-dog-across-the-room seizures. His first seizure occurred when he was two and a half. He had seven seizures in twenty-seven hours bef...

Just out of curiosity, if Trump were to physically assault her, how would the Secret Service respond?
I imagine they would do what I do when our Miniature Schnauzer and Boston Terrier try to start something: I get between them and give the instigator a dirty look.

Duane Ehmer was apparently kicked by a horse. Not Hellboy, but a horse named ‘Bunny’ whose IQ probably eclipses Duane Ehmer’s. Ol' Duane was in his full stars and stripes regalia, several layers thick, so he didn't feel a thing, most likely. I wonder if his underwear is made out of American flags? ...

I don't think the people of Alaska knew how off the rails Palin was until she became a regular feature on the national news.
I've two sisters in law who live in or near Homer, Alaska. When McCain picked Palin, their eyes were rolling so hard via email and telephone one could practically hear it.

Re: Fire!

I found this answer on Quora: (I had guessed this myself.)

https://www.quora.com/Why-cant-sea-wate ... guish-fire

2. Sea water cannot be used to put out forest fires / wild fires because the salinity is detrimental to plant life in general.
