Re: Science, General Stuff

I guess this is what I was "sayin'" in a clumsy way: The Owl showed a picture of a piece of fruit in his/her original premise. Do we know for fact that this piece of fruit is a tangerine? If it is, then all is well with RP's math, and Slarti's response. However, if not, then is not the entire exerci...

Re: Science, General Stuff

Since this is the science page, I ask for clarification on the picture that started this lively discussion: Tangerines are Citrus tangerina while mandarins are C. reticulata . Taxonomists and others have generally concluded that all tangerines are mandarins, but not vice versa. The word tangerine is...

A bit of information that likely has been the major contributor to the problems at Oroville: At Four Trees in the Plumas National Forest hard by the Feather River upstream from Lake Oroville, the accumulated precipitation from October 1 to date has been 117.02 inches. I saw something about farmers and a backlash starting, a few days ago. I'll try to remember where I saw it, but you know, :geezerette: It goes beyond manufacturing. I'm waiting for the backlash from the farmers who voted for Trump when our agricultural exports go down the porcelain drain. Almonds. ...

So, I fail to understand what this field trip for the jury will demonstrate. The highway was closed to traffic. There was no danger to the snipers or anyone else. I imagine that the prosecuting attorneys will point that out. And to make an even better point, I would try to have NHP shut it down whi...

One issue on which Loos hopes to enact major change is the filling of agricultural production jobs. "We need to take a stand," Loos said. Quite a good read, Dr. C.; thank you for sharing. I told my wife during the campaign that no one really knows or understands Trump. His campaign was so rhetorically violent--was this an act like his reality shows--or is this how he really feels? Was he trying to shock the conscience of the voters? J...

My gut tells me that uranium has more value in commercial processes and for nuclear reactors to generate electricity than it does to make atomic bombs.

And, I believe, John P Capitalist wrote on these hallowed pages a few months back that worldwide prices of uranium are dropping.

I will say this for Ammon Bundy; he knows the value of a good narrative, and he sticks to his, which gives him the strength of his deluded convictions. Re: CUBS WIN!

It took 30 outs instead of the usual 27. Final put out was 5-3 if you are keeping score at home. A game like this just reinforces why baseball is so superior to other games--there is no clock to wind down to 0:00. As long as the batter has a strike left, there is always a chance. Congrats to the Cubs.

They still have to get 27 more outs. Twenty-seven more outs.

We shall see if they can shake the ghosts of the previous 108 years.

But, damn, Wrigley Field is just a grand place for a baseball game! (And night games at Wrigley just feel wrong.)
