Re: 2018-2019 Government Shutdown

This is insane. Congress is a co-equal branch of government. The President "ordering" DoD to call off a scheduled CoDel at the last minute makes about as much sense Constitutionally as the President "ordering" the 75th Rangers to storm the Capitol Building and execute the Speaker of the House.

And here we are, post 24 hours since Dotard's last tweet. I wonder what is troubling him so that even his little hands aren't working for him today. ??
Golf withdrawal.

Re: LEAVE Brexit Vote: Leave EU Thu 23 June - Market and US Election Impact

I don't know where Corbyn aligns in the dogmatic cults of Socialism, but it could be that he sees the collapse of the UK after Brexit as the "revolution" that is needed to create a Socialist Utopia in England, so he would actually be egging the whole thing onto collapse. That's been my thought as w...

Re: Rudy Giuliani

The look on Cuomo's face when Rudy says "I never said there was no collusion" is absolutely priceless. Someone needs to make a video of it with the record-scratching-to-a-halt noise, because that's the audible equivalent of Cuomo's facial expression.

Re: 2018-2019 Government Shutdown

No one on the Democratic side is going to negotiate over DACA while the case is pending in the courts. As long as the Trump Administration cannot end DACA, there is literally no reason to accept a permanent DACA in exchange for anything. You can't accept an offer of something you already have. Also ...

Re: Mueller's investigation

If it turns out that this is one of the stones turned over by Flynn with additional cooperation since the non-sentencing hearing, I will be very amused. It would be only too appropriate that Flynn's conspiracy-mongering to play to the fever swamp/Fox News audience that breathlessly followed Nunes' e...

Re: LEAVE Brexit Vote: Leave EU Thu 23 June - Market and US Election Impact

Part of the problem is the utter ignorance of the British electorate. A lot of them seem convinced that the negative consequences they've been warned about are "scaremongering" and nothing more. This is what happens when you let charlatans like Rees-Mogg and Nigel Farage gallivant around the country...

Re: What are you reading lately?

So, after the Holiday gift-giving season, I am now buried in biographies. One family member gave me the first two volumes of Robert Caro's The Years of Lyndon Johnson (I already own volumes 3 & 4) - and my goodness do I hope Caro is taking vitamins or something to finish the last book, because he's ...

Re: Mueller's investigation

Same thing for the media. If a producer of a TV network or a newspaper editor has a choice between a food fight on Capitol Hill or a thinkpiece on the important jobs of federal workers, it's a no-brainer. Anyone in media who chooses education over entertainment value is going to find themselves with...

Because one of our two major political parties has been campaigning non-stop on the notion that all federal workers are useless bureaucrats and freeloaders since 1980. Seriously, follow enough right-wingers on Twitter, and you will see plenty of "these jobs shouldn't even exist!" I get that but mor...

Re: Michael Cohen

For a guy who is 99% showman and 1% lawyer, Avenatti is committing the cardinal sin: He's become boring. He's like the bad stage act that won't give it up even after the gong has sounded about fifty times. Where's the hook when you need it?

Re: Mueller's investigation

That was my thought as well, Maybenaut. My next questions would be these: What sort of documents does VTB have that are reachable by Mueller via a subpoena? Do they have a physical office in the United States? In that case, why not execute a search warrant? If not, does Mueller expect them to just b...

I too would be terrified if I saw Corsi darkening my door. Darkening your door, you say? Re: Mueller's investigation

Eh. My guess is that by the time Barr is confirmed, things will be far enough along that it won't matter. This is particularly so in light of the fact that I'm fairly certain the DOJ ethics people are going to tell Barr that the letter he sent to Rosenstein and Trump's legal team create at least the...

Re: Mueller's investigation

Would you want to be the lawyer for the Russians (sorry, "Concord Capital Management") when it became very obvious that they were willing to do basically anything to anyone to achieve their objectives? I certainly would not, but then, I wouldn't have taken them on as a client in the first place. Pro...
