Re: Economic Effects of Covid-19
Interesting. I'd been following marine traffic in NorCal/Port of Oakland, and the number of ships biding their time while they await a dock has dropped over the last few months. Now I see where they are, a whole mess of them dropped anchor off Long Beach.

Re: Brexit
Early on, I asked a friend in London "what's the deal with Brexit?" "Donald Trump," he replied, and I got it right away. The parallels were obvious. It reminded me of when I lived there, people would hassle me, "what's the deal with Ronald Reagan?" "Maggie Thatcher...

That sounds like one expensive bullet. Probably pretty fancy.
That will show them. They don't any fancy bullets like that.
Wait a sec, remind me, why were we there in the first place?

Re: Rest In Peace
Some of the British drummers of that era really knew how to swing. Their roots were in skiffle and jazz. Some of the obits I've been hearing are pretty sloppy, like one where they were playing "You Can't Always Get" in the background. That wasn't Charlie, it was their producer, Jimmy Mille...

Why they call us the United States, I'll never know. The country couldn't order a sandwich without breaking into civil war. And we're supposed to be the model as the leader of the free world?

I go on 4-day solo hikes off-grid all the time, like every other weekend. It's not that dangerous if you know what you are doing. I carry a GPS because I spend a lot of time off-trail, but no Spot or cellphone. I don't want the distraction. If you are on (or near) a well-travelled trail, help is eas...

Re: Hypothetical: How To Create & Cash In On The Massive MAGAt Grifting? Design Your Own Grift
"Trumpers are far easier to grift" I respectfully disagree with that statement. I understand this topic is proposed in fun, is theoretical and hypothetical and all that. But I work in the non-profit field and am blown away by some of the grift perpetuated by Democrats, liberals, and the l...

Re: California tenancy issue
These situations can get real tricky real fast. For a start, you should carefully examine the terms of her lease. Tenant's rights vary widely between various counties and cities. CA is currently under a temporary ban on evictions (for most circumstances) which is set to expire on July 1, but may be ...

Re: Offensive Language
I try not to use language that could be offensive to women. I think the term "bitch" is often inappropriate and overused. I'm uncomfortable with the N-word, in most any context, a view that is shared by older generations of African-Americans. I've been present in discussions where they exp...

Re: Derek Chauvin trial: The murder of George Floyd
I was in LA for the OJ verdict and some of us breathed a sigh of relief. It had only been a couple of years since the Rodney King riots. Things were still pretty tense. A lot of black folks were jubilant and many white folks couldn't understand that. I'm concerned about protests morphing into riots ...

Re: Racism back in fashion, did it ever fade?
I was doing a gig in Hong Kong, met the fellows in the sound crew. "Hi, I'm Jim," and "I'm Bob," they said as we shook hands. "Nah, come on, I should learn your real names," I asked. They obliged. Big mistake on my part. "Nice to meet you Jim and Bob, it's gonna be...

Re: would you support business that said you can only come in if you were fully vaccinated
Nope. I have not been allowed to receive any Covid vaccines yet. I wouldn't be allowed to support such a business. There are a lot of businesses I would not support, no matter what they said. There are a lot of businesses I can't afford to support with my hard-earned cash. I'm not rich. I support bu...
