Re: Weather Alerts

We've told them to bring anything, everything and everyone including animals that they want but I just don't think they "get" how dangerous a storm like this can be. This is not something that a bunch of candles and some canned goods will fix. The more we urge, the more they dig in. That is human n...

Re: Weather Alerts

 for everyone in the path. Since the path has shifted to the south and west, we’re likely to get rain in the DC area, but probably not until Monday or Tuesday. Well, I should say that the remnants of Florence are not going to reach us until Monday or Tuesday. But we’re still going to get the ...

Re: Recipes!

Last week realist bought me a cast iron dutch oven. He had been raving about cast iron for years but I have never used it. Sunday I made no-knead bread. It seemed too easy to be good but really was tasty! You literally pop the dough right into the dutch oven, cover it and let it cook in the oven. Yu...

Re: SCOTUS: Kavanaugh Nomination Hearings, September 4 2018

Did quite the double take this morning when I checked into the hearing and saw one of my co-workers in the front row of spectators. Apparently he and Kavanaugh have been best buds since high school. Kind of surreal.

Flash flooding on US 15 S between Point of Rocks, MD and Leesburg, VA. It’s dark out here and it’s hard to see. :crying: I’m askeerd. But my husband’s not, and he’s driving. If it gets too askeerdy you can stop and stay with realist and me. We are warm and safe and watching the light show from indo...

I believe it would take Democrat voters all pulling a straight Democrat ticket lever to oust Hogan. He’s popular on both sides of the aisle for a reason.

I certainly at this time plan to vote for him.
Same here.

Re: Recipes!

I've discovered the joy of bread baking. One of the easier, tastier attempts lately has been Japanese Milk bread. Really easy and impossible to mess up. Instead of a standard rise it starts with a roux. Yum! English muffins were pretty awesome also but a lot more work. https://www.kingarthurflour.co...

Raskin had name recognition. Aruna Miller and Nadia Hashimi not so much. Ike Leggett has been around forever but has been involved in a personal bathroom controversy during his county council tenure. Plus the district was gerrymandered several years ago and the Frederick County voters don’t know muc...

We live in this district. You can’t go 50 feet without seeing a Trone sign or getting something in the mail from him. He has been campaigning for months. The other candidates seem to have started blasting us with info over the last few weeks which I think was a major mistake since most of the people...

I just don't think I will ever believe that doing something wrong because someone else did something wrong first is the way to live. But that is just my opinion. Not serving someone who lies daily for a man who thinks Nazis are “very fine people” is doing something wrong? Not serving someone becaus...

I just see this as stooping to their level and I can't support that. I know many feel passionately that Trump's cronies are reaping what they have sowed but this just strikes me as wrong.

Re: What are you watching on TV these days?

I watched the four-part drama Howards End on Amazon Prime/BBC. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've always loved the book by E. M. Forster, which examines the class structure of pre-WWI England, looking askance at both liberal and conservative ideas. Done through two families and how they deal with or don...

We caught a Don Blankenship ad on tv a few nights ago and both realist and I looked at each other like "WTF was that?" A little googling and we were even more WTF. Blankenship was the head of a coal mine, went to prison for lying to investigators and somehow it is all Obama's fault. To show what a p...

Took a gander at the fine political reporting at Dr. Kate's this morning. Its a tough job but someone has to do it.
